Funeral services for Floyd “Tom” Thomas Sweet, Jr., 66, will be held at 3:00 P.M. Friday, July 6, 2012 at the band shell in the Wheatland City Park in Wheatland, Wyoming with Reverend Jane Willis officiating. Another service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, July 7, 2012 at the Senior Citizen Center in Newcastle, Wyoming with Marv Proctor as the eulogist and Masonic Rites.
Tom, a resident of Wheatland, passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2012, peacefully and unexpectedly at home.
Tom was born on May 12, 1946 in Newcastle, the son of Floyd and Diana (Musgrave) Sweet. He was raised on the family ranch on Beaver Creek, east of Newcastle, and attended the Sweet School and later Newcastle High School, graduating with the class of 1964.  In high school, Tom was a dedicated member of the Newcastle Saddle and Sirloin FFA ; he was one of the six members from NHS who received State Farmer Degrees—the largest number the state had given to one chapter for many decades before and after.  After high school, Tom joined the Army National Guard.  In 1967, Tom married “Bunni” Barton; they were blessed with three children:  Mariah, Shane, and Kara.
Tom ranched in Weston County for many years.  He was active on the Weston County Junior Livestock Committee for 27 years and was the beef superintend.  Tom loved the ranch life, and through 4-H, FFA, fair, and rodeo, tried to instill this love in the youth of Weston County.  Tom was an avid hunter, looking forward to his fall hunting trips near Jackson.  He was also an active member in the Masonic Lodge, AF & AM Lodge 13 of Newcastle.    Tom was always involved in his children’s lives, following their many different activities from rodeo to speech.  He then followed his grandchildren’s sporting activities, as well as being a University of Wyoming Cowboy fan.  He later moved to Wheatland.  In 2002, he married Toni (Minic) Chistensen.  They continued to live in Wheatland until the time of his death.
He is survived by his wife, Toni; daughter, Mariah (Steve) Walker; son, Shane (Marissa) Sweet; daughter, Kara (Brian) Sweet; grandchildren, Tyler and Brittany Walker, Ashlyn and Colton Sweet, and Emalee, Sara, and Rachel Sweet; mother, Diana Sweet; sister, Patti (Lee) Sweet; step-daughter, Amy (Jason) Henthorne; step-son, Ryan Christensen; step-grandchildren, Sydnee, Lauren, Kailyn; and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.
Tom was preceded in death by his father, Floyd Thomas Sweet, Sr. and grandparents.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Allen Mahonly, Ron Tamlin, Mike VanWay, Bob VanSchuyver, Wayne Christensen, Dick Gould and all of his many friends.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the Weston County Junior Beef Show.  Memorials can be sent to the family or to the Tom Sweet Memorial, care of First State Bank of Newcastle, P.O. Box 910, Newcastle, WY 82701.
The Gorman Funeral Homes – Platte Chapel of Wheatland is in charge of the arrangements.

To Tom's family, Michele Smith, Ronald and I send our sympathy. "Tommy" and his family have been life long friends of the Smiths. We watched the way he enjoyed his children and grandchildren. Those are definitely some of the happy memories we have of him. We are thinking of you. With affection, Kristy Kay

Memories of my childhood were going to Aunt Zola and Uncle Fred's for summer vacations. This included spending time with Patti and Tom who I remember fondly. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

Mariah, Shane & Kara: Tom was a remarkable man. He was such a great parent--having to fill both sets of shoes--a great advocate for youth in all areas, and a wonderful friend. I am so sorry. I saw a quote for Katie Cummings that is so fitting: "Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, and love leaves memories no one can steal." I am praying for all of you--Dianna-Patti & family and Tom's grandchildren. We have all been blessed to know and love him.
