Tom was born on May 12, 1946 in Newcastle, the son of Floyd and Diana (Musgrave) Sweet. In high school, Tom was a dedicated member of the Newcastle Saddle and Sirloin FFA ; he was one of the six members from NHS who received State Farmer Degrees—the largest number the state had given to one chapter for many decades before and after. Tom ranched in Weston County for many years. He was active on the Weston County Junior Livestock Committee for 27 years and was the beef superintend. Tom loved the ranch life, and through 4-H, FFA, fair, and rodeo, tried to instill this love in the youth of Weston County. Tom was an avid hunter, looking forward to his fall hunting trips near Jackson. He was also an active member in the Masonic Lodge, AF & AM Lodge 13 of Newcastle. Tom was always involved in his children’s lives, following their many different activities from rodeo to speech. He then followed his grandchildren’s sporting activities, as well as being a University of Wyoming Cowboy fan. He later moved to Wheatland. In 2002, he married Toni (Minic) Chistensen. They continued to live in Wheatland until the time of his death.
He is survived by his wife, Toni; daughter, Mariah (Steve) Walker; son, Shane (Marissa) Sweet; daughter, Kara (Brian) Sweet; grandchildren, Tyler and Brittany Walker, Ashlyn and Colton Sweet, and Emalee, Sara, and Rachel Sweet; mother, Diana Sweet; sister, Patti (Lee) Sweet; step-daughter, Amy (Jason) Henthorne; step-son, Ryan Christensen; step-grandchildren, Sydnee, Lauren, Kailyn; and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.
