Funeral services for Dan Lovitt, 70, will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, September 14, 2017 at the Gorman Funeral Homes – Converse Chapel in Douglas, Wyoming with Pastor Frank Wiederrecht of The Gathering officiating.  Interment will be in the Douglas Park Cemetery with military honors accorded by Wyoming Army National Guard Military Funeral Honors and Samuel Mares American Legion Post #8.
Dan Lovitt passed away Saturday, September 9, 2017 peacefully following a courageous fight with cancer at his home surrounded by family.
Daniel Wray Lovitt was born Saturday, October 5, 1946 in Lusk, Wyoming the son of Wray Lovitt and Maude Emma (Way) Lovitt Murray.  He was welcomed home to the ranch east or Orin where he spent his entire life.
He attended school and graduated from the Douglas High School.  In 1965 he was drafted into the United States Army and fought in the Viet Nam Conflict where he was wounded several times and received the Purple Heart with an Oak Leaf Cluster.
His father, Wray, passed away ten days after Dan returned from Viet Nam.  He took over his father’s ranch and remained there throughout his life.
Dan married Sharon Kay Heimsoth on June 8, 1968 in Douglas and to this union two sons were born, Wray in 1974 and Craig in 1975.
Dan loved ranching, raising sheep and cattle, and most of all he loved the land and the challenge of ranching.
He collected guns and knives, and was an endowment member of the NRA.  He enjoyed hunting prairie dogs and predators.
Dan is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sharon, and his sons, Wray and wife, Karen and their children, Warren, Adam, and Trinity and Craig and wife, Mandy, and their children, Megan, Cole, and Cash.
A memorial to the Central Wyoming Hospice Home, 319 South Wilson Street, Casper, Wyoming 82601 or to the National Rifle Association of America (NRA), 11250 Waples Mill Road, Fairfax, Virginia 22030 would be appreciated by the family.
Serving as pallbearers will be Steve Swan, Rob Freeman, Clint Becker, Brandon Wittrock, Ed Drew, and Gary Stoll.
Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, September 13 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. and on Thursday, September 14 from 10:00 A.M. to 12:30 P.M.
The Gorman Funeral Homes – Converse Chapel of Douglas, Wyoming is in charge of the arrangements.

I am so sorry I missed the Funeral. I send my deepest sympathies to Sharon and the boys (men now). I did not know Dan was even sick. I have quite a few memories and great stories involving Dan, my husband Robert and a veterinary call to the ranch. I always counted Dan and Sharon amongst those we called friends. Deepest sympathy and prayers.
