Funeral services for John Calvin Dilts, 92, will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, October 26, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church in Douglas, Wyoming with Pastor Donnie Holt officiating and Taylor Dilts as the eulogist.  Interment will be in the Douglas Park Cemetery.
John Dilts passed away at his home in Douglas on Saturday, October 21, 2017 surrounded by his family..
John was born Wednesday, April 1, 1925 in Douglas, Wyoming the son of Fred William Dilts Sr. and Elnora (Dunkelberger) Dilts.  He attended school at LaBonte Creek and graduated from Douglas High School.  He was a member of the football and basketball teams.
His father died when John was just 18 years old at which time he and his brother, Fred, divided the family’s business operations with his brother taking properties south of Center Street in Douglas and John taking possession of everything north of Center Street.  It was then that John began expanding his ranching business.
John married Betty Jane Payne on December 31, 1947 in San Leandro, California where Betty was working. John brought his new bride back to Douglas to begin married life.  Together, John and Betty raised three boys, Jack, Jerry, and Steve, on the family ranch north of Douglas.
After selling his ranch to his sons in 1981 he found he needed a project and quickly came out of retirement.  He bought a ranch in the mountains west of Chugwater, Wyoming where he worked raising cattle and putting up hay for another 25 plus years.
John engaged in many different business ventures including hotels, uranium development, and real estate, including a shopping center in California and the Holiday Inn right here in Douglas.
John was an avid golfer and loved to play cards.  He met with his “Gin Buddies” twice weekly for many years.  He would sit down anytime, anywhere for a quick game.
John’s absolute passion was flying.  He flew both airplanes and helicopters and logged over 15,000 hours in the air.  He flew for many years hunting coyotes out of his helicopters.  John and his family and friends experienced much joy and excitement in the air.  There have been many stories over the years, some which have been told and some of which are best left untold!  His last flight was in his Cessna 185 at the age of 86.  His flying adventures took him all over the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
He is survived by his sons, Jack (Ludmilla) Dilts of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Jerry Dilts (Liz Philp) of Riverton, Wyoming, and Steve (Tracy) Dilts of Douglas; grandchildren, Wade (Kaley) Orr of Polvadera, New Mexico, Russel (Linda) Orr of Belen, New Mexico, Morgan (Jeremy) Gaco  of Belen, New Mexico, Lindsey (Brett) Moniz of Laramie, Wyoming, Erin (Colby) Thomas of Helena, Montana, Brandon (Riley) Dilts of Wright, Wyoming, Jenne Dilts (Jason Miller) of Douglas, Wyoming, Taylor Dilts of Douglas, Wyoming, and Kristi (Derek) Bohlander of Douglas, Wyoming, Makayla (Jordan) Mette of Casper, Wyoming, Alyona Koneva (Ray Guardara) of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Lillya Koneva of Albuquerque, New Mexico; great grandchildren, Brylee Gaco, Jace and Carson Moniz, Kira, Mackenzie, and Harper Thomas, Nora Bohlander, Trace Dilts, Andre Koneva-Mehta, and Lucas Post.
John was preceded in death by his father, Fred, on February 3, 1944; mother, Elnora, on August 29, 1967; wife, Betty, on December 8, 2016; and brother, Fred W. Dilts Jr., on December 3, 1984.
Serving as pallbearers will be Brandon Dilts, Taylor Dilts, Wade Orr, Russel Orr, Mac Payne, and Chris Payne.
Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. and on Thursday from 9:00 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.
A memorial to the Fred and Elnora Dilts Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of Gorman Funeral Homes – Converse Chapel, P.O. Box X, Douglas, Wyoming 82633 would be appreciated by the family.

My sincere condolences to family and friends. May you find comfort in your loving memories, and in God's promise to soon "swallow up death forever" and "wipe away the tears from all faces." (Isaiah 25;8) Rev 21:4  “And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” With deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers.

My deepest sympathy to the family. My 32 years of association with John is full of many fond memories. John's dry wit and down-home personality will be remembered with a smile of having known such a kind and generous man.

Thoughts and prayers to all of you.

What a great guy John was. I will always remember the times I was able to spend with him at the ranch. Driving around with him in a total white out blizzard and he always new exactly where he was is one of my great memories. God Bless you, Jack, Jerry, and Steve, and all your family.
