Memorial services for SFC Paul Eric Peterson will be held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, December 2, 2017 at the Douglas High School Auditorium in Douglas, Wyoming with Chaplain Peterson officiating and Chief Ron Casalenda and State Command Sergeant Major Harold Pafford as the eulogists. Military honors will be accorded by Samuel Mares American Legion Post #8 and the Wyoming Army National Guard Military Funeral Honors.

Paul was born Saturday, May 20, 1972 in Twin Falls, Idaho the son of Darrell and Gloria Jean (Sayer) Peterson.

SFC Paul Eric Peterson, 45, reported ‘Mission Complete’ to the Highest Command on Monday November 20th 2017, after a year-long battle with cancer.

A child of divorce, Paul learned tenacity early in life, whether helping build the family home in Idaho or fishing for supper in Story (at the fish hatchery – statute of limits no longer applies)!

Paul joined the Wyoming Army National Guard at age 17, transferred to the regular Army and began his lifelong adventure, eventually setting foot on every continent except for Australia and Antarctica.  Field Artillery, Telecommunications, Intelligence Analysis, or Recruiting; Paul touched lives no matter what he did.

Paul lived his life by the Core Army Values of LDRSHIP: Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage. He always felt it was more important to do the hard right than the easy wrong.

Having met the love of his life (also from Wyoming) in Arizona, they went to Ohio to ask her 5-year-old daughter’s permission. After meeting with her approval, he married Lea in front of a reindeer in North Pole, Alaska. 9 months later, he missed the birth of his daughter while serving in Egypt, and returned to meet her when she was 2 months old.

He tried his hand at the civilian world, working as a contractor at the NSA (before it was cool) and was able to witness the birth of his son in Maryland. He felt the urge to return to the great nation of Wyoming to raise his children.

Having suckled at Uncle Sam’s breast for far too long, he soon found himself donning the uniform of the Wyoming Army National Guard once more. He quickly became a full time recruiter, and found great satisfaction in helping shape many a young person’s (and some not so young) future.

Though never so much in a traditional sense, the one title that seemed to fit Paul was Teacher. He was proud of all of his “kids” and their achievements.

Throughout this past year, Paul never once gave up hope, never once stopped fighting, inspiring many with his infectious humor, no matter what. He lived more in his 45 years than most people ever do. He always helped others, never expecting any reward - except maybe a beer.

Continue Paul’s legacy: Help those that need it, be true to yourself, and live your life without regrets.

Paul is survived by his wife, Leora F. “Lea” Peterson, of Douglas; children, Aurora Peterson and Justin Peterson both of Douglas, and Caitlyn Bland of Casper, Wyoming; parents, Darrell (Sandi) Peterson of Sheridan, Wyoming and Gloria Peterson of Story, Wyoming; paternal grandmother, Faye Elizabeth Carlin of Sheridan; and siblings, twins, Jerry East and Gary East both of Glenrock, Wyoming, John Peterson of Billings, Montana, Lauren Peterson and Erin Peterson both of Sheridan.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Aurora Peterson, Justin Peterson, Dylan Hime, Dr. Patrick Yost, Sheriff Clint Becker, Chief Ron Casalenda, Dr. Nathan Ker, and SFC Matt Hutchison.

A memorial to the Paul E. Peterson Memorial Fund in care of the Reliant Federal Credit Union, 239 South Fourth Street, Douglas, Wyoming 82633 would be appreciated by the family.

The Gorman Funeral Homes – Converse Chapel of Douglas, Wyoming is in charge of the arrangements.

My deepest sympathy for your loss. Words cannot begin to express the pain and sadness that death causes, especially when we lose someone so young. In the very near future we are promised that we will be reunited with our loved ones by means of an earthly resurrection. (Acts 24:15). What a wonderful time to be able to see and hold our dear loved ones again! God promises that "He will wipe out every tear from their eyes and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away." (Revelation 21:4). Until this hope is fulfilled, keep close to your hearts all of your cherished memories of time spent together with Paul. May the "God of All Comfort" be with you in the days ahead. (2 Corinthians 1:3-4)

Lea, I am so thankful I got to see Paul in your truck a few weeks ago at the grocery store. Thank you for waiting for me. He did touch many lives, and you can rest assured that he made a difference in this world.
Sincerely, Gale and Bonnie Lane

Paul, my dear friend, where has the time gone? It seems like yesterday we were working together at Camp Guernsey. The Germany assignment where we spent weekends on the golf course and in the Pubs drinking the nectar of Germany. You were always there and had my back, I will always remember your your infectious humor and positive attitude. Rest easy my Friend, you are mission complete.
