Janice Uhlich-Rydquist Obituary

Janice Pauline Uhlich-Rydquist, 38, beloved wife, devoted mother, cherished daughter, sister and aunt, passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of strength, love, and resilience. Despite battling a rare illness for many years, she faced every challenge with unwavering determination and courage. Throughout her journey, she defied the odds time and again.

Janice “Jan Ju” was born in Douglas, Wyoming to Arthur Gene and Sheryll Randi (Smathers) Uhlich on Monday, February 10, 1986, the youngest of four children. Janice graduated from Douglas High School in 2004 and pursued her passions by training as a Critical Care Flight Paramedic in Melbourne, Florida, where she exhibited her innate ability to care for others, both professionally and in her personal life. In her role as a paramedic, she embodied compassion and selflessness, touching the lives of many with her caring nature and dedication to serving others. Her impact extended far beyond her professional life, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Her young daughter, Madison, was the center of her world, bringing immense joy and purpose to her life.  She poured all her love and energy into cherishing and teaching her. On October 9th, 2017, Janice married the love of her life, Steven Gordon Rydquist, who also shared in her same passion for caring for others.  She shared a deep bond with her husband who stood by her side through her battle with Behcet’s disease. They enjoyed spending time with Madison, watching and mentoring her into the young lady that she is becoming, traveling, riding and exploring on their Harley Davidson, and pursuing Storm Photography as Janice’s health would allow.

Though she may no longer be with us, her spirit and her legacy of love and compassion will continue to inspire and guide those who were fortunate enough to know her.

Janice is survived by her husband, Steve Rydquist of Wray, Colorado; daughter, Madison Uhlich; parents, Gene and Sheryll Uhlich of Douglas, Wyoming; brother, Randy (Carissa) Uhlich of Casper, Wyoming; sister, Emmalee (Wes) Meeks of Douglas, Wyoming; nieces, Avery Uhlich and Jordyn Uhlich; nephew Breckyn Uhlich; and many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and cherished friends.

Janice was preceded in death by her grandparents, James and Arlea Smathers and Arthur and Pauline Uhlich.  Waiting for her at the doors to Heaven was her brother, Casey Uhlich. All who knew Janice will find solace in their eternal reunion.

Services to celebrate Janice's life will be held on Saturday, April 13th, 2024 at 1:00 P.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Douglas, Wyoming, followed by interment at the Douglas Park Cemetery and a reception at the Samuel Mares American Legion Post #8.
