LOWELL DEAN SCHIFFERNS

A graveside service was held for L. Dean Schifferns, 84, at 1:00 P.M. Friday, October 18, 2019 at the Glenrock Cemetery in Glenrock, Wyoming with Pastor James W. Ritter of the First Southern Baptist Chapel of Glenrock officiating.

Dean went to be with his Lord after a long courageous battle with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) at his home near Glenrock on Tuesday, October 15, 2019 with his beloved wife by his side.  Dean was a born again Christian, and it was his wish that ALL would come to know Jesus as their personal Savior.

Dean was born Wednesday, August 28, 1935 in Atkinson, Nebraska to Matthew and Irene (Wakeland) Schifferns.  He married Virginia Mae Learned on November 20, 1952 and lived around the Scottsbluff, Nebraska area where he worked on a garbage route.  They moved to the Gas Hills in Wyoming, where he worked as a heavy equipment mechanic for Lucky Mac and Federal Uranium Mines.  After a time, they moved to Glenrock where they made their permanent home.  Dean worked for Exxon as a heavy equipment mechanic in Glenrock, transferring to Columbia, and also for Freeport Mining in Indonesia.  He worked in Elko, Nevada as a mechanic.   He also did contract pumping on oil well sites.  He enjoyed the travel to other countries for work.

Dean enjoyed his grandkids and great grandkids, mechanics, tractors, guns, and loved watching the stock market.  Family was so important to him. 

Dean was survived by his wife, Virginia Schifferns, of Glenrock; children, Timothy (Glenda) Schifferns of Billings, Montana, Dwayne (Linda) Schifferns of Glenrock, and Regina (Len) Culver of Billings; seven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; sister, Donna (Tyronne) Brooks; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Matthew, on February 6, 1989; mother, Irene, on May 2, 1990; infant son, Matthew Monroe Schifferns, on June 19, 1959; son, Robert Dean Schifferns, on March 21, 1982; grandson, Robert Bennett Schifferns, on May 14, 2010; brother, Lloyd Schifferns; and sisters, Phyllis, Marion, and Iola.

Serving as pallbearers will be Curtis Schifferns, Zach Schifferns, Chylo Schifferns, Seth Culver, Joe Mendoza, Michael Bauer, and Joe Ostermiller.

A memorial to the First Southern Baptist Chapel, P.O. Box 1474, Glenrock, Wyoming 82637 would be appreciated by the family.
