MARGRET JEAN "BILLIE" (LATHROP) ELDER

Margret Jean “Billie” Elder, 90, passed away Saturday, September 14, 2019 at the Platte County Legacy Home in Wheatland, Wyoming.

Billie Elder was born May 8, 1929 in Torrington, Wyoming the daughter of Leslie Leroy and Caroline Katherine (McMichael) Lathrop. 

Billie was reared and educated in Torrington and graduated from Torrington High School in 1947.  After graduation Billie married Irwin Charles Elder on November 27, 1948 in Torrington.  To this union were born three sons.  They moved the family to Lander, Wyoming for Irwin’s employment opportunities.  When they had the chance to move back to Torrington in 1977, they bought the family homestead. Billie held some different jobs but her most important job was raising her three boys.

Some of her hobbies included crocheting, reading, bird watching, visiting with family and friends, and she always loved to expand her knowledge.

She is survived by her three sons, Michael Lee Elder of Casper, Wyoming, Scott David (Barbara) Elder of Torrington, and Mark Kevin (Dixie) Elder of Torrington; brother, Dean Allen Lathrop of Phoenix, Arizona; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Irwin Elder on April 18, 2003; and her sister, Donna Mae McCaslin on August 22, 2019.

A graveside service will be held in June, 2020 at the Valley View Cemetery in Torrington.
