Rosemary Staats Young Obituary

Rosemary Staats Young, 95, left to join her God and maker on Thursday, February 28, 2019.
Rosemary was a rural resident of Westcliffe, Colorado, from 1990 until 2018. She lived there during the spring, summer, and fall months, spending winter in Sun City, Arizona.
Mrs. Young was born Wednesday, August 20, 1923, in Cheyenne, Wyoming to Margaret Kerr Staats and Russell Louis Staats. She lived in Chugwater, Wyoming until graduating from Chugwater High School in 1941. She attended the University of Wyoming for two years, then went to Children’s Hospital School of Nursing in Denver, Colorado, graduating and becoming a registered nurse in June, 1946.
She was married to James Ellsworth “Jim” Young on March 12, 1945. At that time, he was a LTJG in the United States Navy Reserve in which he served during and after World War II. After the war the couple lived in eight different states as Jim worked as an engineer for Schlumberger Well Services. Rosemary practiced nursing until the birth of their daughters, Jean Marie and Carolyn. She returned to nursing after her daughters were grown.
Rosemary trusted Jesus Christ as Savior in 1934 at a Methodist Vacation Bible School in Chugwater. She was baptized at the Baptist Church, also in Chugwater, at the age of 12. She was a strong believer in Christ and served as a Sunday school teacher and in mission education at most of the churches her family attended.
Rosemary Young is survived by her two sisters, Joann Staats Nelson of Deer Lodge, Montana, and Nancy Staats Soltero of Oak Creek, Arizona; her brother, John Staats of New Braunfels, Texas. Also surviving is her daughter, Jean Marie Young Krueger, her companion since the death of her husband. She leaves two sons-in- law, Jean’s husband, Ted Krueger of Troy, New York, and daughter Carolyn’s husband, Bill Beck of Enid, Oklahoma. She has four grandchildren, Elizabeth Anne, Susan Mae, William James, and Russell Staats; and six great grandchildren. Rosemary was preceded by her beloved daughter, Carolyn, in 2008 and by her best friend and husband, Jim, the love of her long life, in 2011.
