A memorial service for Alberta May Townsend, 90, will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, June 29, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church in Douglas, Wyoming with Pastor Donnie Holt officiating.  Inurnment will be in the Douglas Park Cemetery.
Alberta Townsend passed away peacefully Saturday, June 24, 2017 at the Memorial Hospital of Converse County in Douglas surrounded by her loving family.
Alberta was born Wednesday, June 1, 1927 in Holton, Kansas the daughter of Cecil Frederick and Effie Emeline (Johnson) Bowser.  She attended grade school at New Century country school and graduated from Holton High School in 1945.  In high school she met Billy G. Townsend.  When he went overseas to serve in World War II, Alberta moved to California to work in a factory making high chairs.  On Bill’s return home they were married on August 15, 1946 in Holton. They moved to Douglas in December, 1946 to make their home near Bill’s mother and father.
Bill and Alberta were the parents of one son and three daughters.  Alberta never wanted to work outside of her home; her dream was to be a wife, homemaker, and mother.  She dearly loved her children, all of her grandchildren, and most of all her husband who returned that love.  Alberta was also a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church for more than 60 years and a charter member of TOPS #WY 167 in Douglas.
Alberta was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill, on August 24, 2013; one sister; and two brothers.
She is survived by one sister, Doris Kitrell, of Holton; one brother, Lee (Betty) Bowser of Holton; sister-in-law, Edna Townsend Rich of Casper, Wyoming; her children, Kathy (Dennis) Smith of Nemo, South Dakota, Mark (Tammy) Townsend, Anita (Rick) Hollon, and Linda (Ken) Grant all of Douglas; and her grandchildren, Erin (Tyrel) Graves, Erik (Dusty) Smith, Lia (Marc) Gant, Laura (Derek) Joppru, Seth Townsend, Sarah Townsend, Heather Townsend, Lisa Townsend, Nathan (Cindy) Gross, Jessica (Justin) McGuire, Riley (Justin) Meyen, and Dylan (Kate) Grant.
Alberta had twenty great grandchildren and one great-great grandson.  Until quite recent she remembered every birthday.
On May 27th all her grandchildren surprised her with a 90th birthday celebration, with forty-two of her immediate family attending as testimony to the strength of her love.
A memorial to the First United Methodist Church, 136 South Fifth Street, Douglas, Wyoming 82633 or to the Douglas Senior Citizens’ Center, P.O. Box 192, Douglas, Wyoming 82633 would be appreciated by the family.
The Gorman Funeral Homes – Converse Chapel of Douglas, Wyoming is in charge of the arrangements.

We are so sorry to hear about Aunt Alberta. We always enjoyed see them when they stopped by Maurine & Bobs house in Seneca, before going on they way to Holton for Thanksgiving.
Our prayers are with all of you. We know you will all miss her dearly.
