Dick was born September 21, 1923 in Little Bear, Wyoming to Cecil L. and Inez Mae (Scott) Hoffman. He grew up south of Wheatland on the family farm.  He enlisted in the United States Army in 1943, and served as a paratrooper in the Second World War. He was honorably discharged on January 11, 1949.  He was married to Doris F. Walther on March 3, 1946.  In February, 1961 they adopted their only son, Larry.

Dick enjoyed reading, fishing, hunting, and gardening.  He belonged to the local Laramie Peak VFW Post 3558 and enjoyed participating in all their activities.  He also was a volunteer at the Laramie Peak Museum in Wheatland.  He especially enjoyed the time he was able to spend with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Doris F. Hoffman of Wheatland; son, Larry L. Hoffman of South Carolina; granddaughter, Linsee L. Hoffman of Buffalo, Wyoming; grandsons, Christopher L. Hoffman of Buffalo, Stephen L. Hoffman of South Carolina, and Brandon L. Hoffman of Florida; great granddaughter, Kennedy L. Hoffman of Buffalo; and many other nieces and nephews.

Honorary pallbearers will be Brandon Hoffman, Christopher Hoffman, Ralph Carlson, Stephen Hoffman, Alan Bennett, and Rod Birkle.
A memorial to the Laramie Peak VFW Post 3558, 1401 Ninth Street, Wheatland, Wyoming 82201 would be appreciated by the family.

So sad to hear of his passing. He was the kindest man. I had the opportunity to meet , he and Ms. Doris, working for his son and daughter in law. He adored Ms Doris. They loved visiting their family. I know he will be greatly missed by all. Prayers to each of you for comfort and strength through this time. Heaven certainly gained a beautiful soul. God bless each one of you. Angela B.

Dear Doris, Larry, and all their family: It was a blessing to live next door to Dick for 45 years. Dick was always so hospitable--he loved visiting and having company. He loved his country and was glad to serve in the Army. Returning to Wheatland he served in the local VFW with enthusiasm. The love that Dick and Doris shared for 72 years was an inspiration to all of us. Dick was a buddy to my late husband, Jim, when he was sidelined here at home for quite a few years. Dick will not be forgotten. God comfort each one of you. Marilyn Livers
