A funeral service for Leona May Gudahl, 86, will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at the First Christian Church in Wheatland, Wyoming with Pastor Casey Schroeder officiating.
Leona Gudahl passed away Sunday, December 9, 2018 at the Platte County Legacy Home in Wheatland.
Leona was born   Friday, August 12, 1932 in Wheatland the daughter of Johnny Brown and Margaret Elizabeth (Moore) Gaddis.
She was raised on the Moore ranch up by Sybille Canyon.  Leona attended school at the Sybille School which usually had five to seven kids.  She came to town to attend high school and graduated from Wheatland High School.  She attended the University of Wyoming summer school in 1950 and received her teaching certificate.  She married Donald Quentin Gudahl on December 6, 1950 in Wheatland at the First Christian Church.  Ten days later Don left for the Korean Conflict.
Leona taught school for one year at the Sybille School and a year at the ranch.  One of her best memories of teaching at Sybille is taking the kids to chop down a Christmas tree up in the canyon above Shamrock.
Leona helped and volunteered for anything that would help her kids, her church, and her community. She served as PTA president, 4-H group leader, and director of Vacation Bible School at the First Christian Church. She was a Gray Lady at the hospital for many years and served on the hospital auxiliary as president for two years.  She was in charge of birthday parties at the nursing home for years and gave a party every month.  She was a member of the Garden Club, as gardening was a passion of hers.  One of her favorite holidays was Christmas and spending time with her family during their Christmas Eve traditions.
She is survived by her loving husband, Donald Gudahl; children, Donna Artery, Karen (Curt) Artery, and Steve Gudahl; grandchildren, Jeran (Mike) Artery, Brad (Mary) Artery, Josh (Marcia) Artery, Tanda (Martin) Hicks, and Quent (Brooke) Gudahl; and several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
A memorial to the First Christian Church, 95 Nineteenth Street, Wheatland, Wyoming 82201 or the Platte County Legacy Home, 100 Nineteenth Street, Wheatland, Wyoming 82201 would be appreciated by the family.
The Gorman Funeral Homes – Platte Chapel of Wheatland are in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs Gudahl was very pleasant when I would see her and Don in Safeway & around town. Always had a smile on her face + "hello Owen, how are you" Don, Donna, Dan, Jeran, Julie and other family and friends, such a loss at the Christmas season. My thoughts are with you all.

About 2 years ago, I saw Leona for the first time in many years as I had moved away. She not only remembered me, but she visited like it was just yesterday when we had seen each other. Such a lovely lady. I was delighted to see her again and know that she obviously had fond memories of me also. I always enjoyed seeing her and with her during the years I was in Wheatland. Her family will miss her and I am sorry I won't have the opportunity to see her again. Great joy on your continuing journey, Leona!

I remember when I worked at Safeway being a bagger, taking pizza or frozen yogurt to Leona's on my lunch. We had great visits not so healthy lunches but I will always treasure the time I spent with her, I'm gonna miss her a lot. Loved her so much.

Don, Donna, Karen, Steve and families,

So very sorry we are not able to be there today to honor Leona’s beautiful life. She had such a wonderful smile and was so kind and helpful to our family when we lived next door. The kids loved her and she treated them just like her own grandkids. Many treats and I am sure interesting conversations were had at her and Don’s house. Her life was filled with love and caring and service to others. She will be truly missed.

Love to you all,
The Beidlemans

Dear Don and Family,
We are so saddened to learn of Leona's passing. I was visiting my mother, Jennie Broyles, in her assisted living facility this past weekend. I live in Bend, 200 miles from Portland, so I had not seen her in the past month. I came across the funeral note you sent about Leona. (My mom is memory-impaired and she had not mentioned receiving your card before. She lost her only sister that same week, and maybe just wanted not to think about it.....) But my mom and dad, Ken, (when he was alive) absolutely LOVED Leona! They always had only the GREATEST words of kindness to associate with her. I will always remember being at your house when we were kids and going to a nearby baseball game on the 4th of July. We had the best time and I remember thinking what positive and amazing people my dad's Wyoming relatives were and thinking what a wonderful life living in Wheatland must be! And Leona embodied what all of us aspire to be at our best. So glad you had so many years together, and wish it could have been longer. Please accept our prayers for your family to feel God's comforting love at this sad time.
