Sherman was born on Friday, October 12, 1934 in Douglas, Wyoming to Harley Clifford and Nellie May (McCormick) Martin, the third of six children. He grew up in the ranching area near Glendo, Wyoming. As a kid, he started helping the neighbors brand, calve, sheer sheep, and put up hay.
He graduated from Glendo High School in 1955. He then went to work at the Glendo Dam when they started building it. When he was through there, he married Daylene Sudbury and went to work for CF&I in Sunrise, Wyoming. They raised four beautiful kids, Rex, Dan, Joni Kay, and Leann. Between the four of them they gave us eight grandchildren.
Sherman stayed at CF&I until it closed in 1981. He was never without work; he also had cattle, sheep, and mohair goats.
As a young man, he rodeoed all over, bareback and bulls were his events and he was good at it.
Sherman leaves his wife, Daylene Martin of Guernsey; four children, Rex (Rhonda) Martin, Dan Martin, Joni Kay (Wayne) Perkins, and Leann (Rob) Starr all of Guernsey; grandchildren, Craig (Crystal) Martin, Kayla (Eric) Bohlander, Barbie (Zane) Townsend, Katie (Cody) Conner, Houston (Julie) Martin, Colt Perkins, Danielle Starr, and Brittney Perkins; eleven great grandchildren; and two sisters, Doreen (Don) Kraft of Lusk, Wyoming and Mary Foy of Rawlins, Wyoming.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harly Martin on March 31, 1995; mother, Nellie Martin on February 20, 1993; brothers, Donald Martin on August 29, 2004, Albert Martin on September 25, 2015, and Calvin Martin on December 3, 2017; nephew, Wade Martin on November 27, 2012; and daughter-in-law, Janet Martin on February 15, 2003.
He loved his kids and took them with him and taught them to hunt, even his girls, who loved it. They hunted racoons, bobcats, mountain lions, and anything else they could think of.
His family loved him with their whole hearts and always will.
And now they lay him to rest close to the hills he loved.
