ABEL SANTILLANES JR.

A funeral service will be held for Abel Santillanes Jr. 76, at 1:00 P.M. Monday, May 3, 2021 at the Gorman Funeral Homes – Converse Chapel in Douglas, Wyoming with Pastor Tom Santillanes officiating.  Interment will be in the Douglas Park Cemetery with military honors accorded by Samuel Mares American Legion Post #8 and Wyoming Army Natrional Guard Military Funeral Honors .

Abel Santillanes died Monday, April 26, 2021 at the Memorial Hospital of Converse County in Douglas.

Abel was born Sunday, July 30, 1944 the son of Alice (Encinias) and Abel Santillanes Sr. in Las Vegas, New Mexico.  The family moved to Torrington, Wyoming where he was raised and educated.  Abel spent eight years in the Wyoming Army National Guard in Guernsey, Wyoming.  He married Bonnie Louise Griffin on August 4, 1962 and they were married for 57 years.

Abel worked in the underground uranium mines in the 1970’s and in the oilfield since the early 1980’s up until a work accident in January, 2021. 

He enjoyed working on his collector cars and showing them off in car shows and parades.  He was an active member of the Knight Kruisers Car Club.

He was always a dedicated, hardworking man who loved his family.  He made time for his children and grandchildren.  He was always willing to lend a hand.  He lived his life providing for his family and was dedicated to his late wife, Bonnie, and their family.  He has blessed his children and grandchildren with wonderful memories of a life well lived.

Abel is survived by his children, Robert Santillanes of Douglas, Steven (Sandy) Santillanes of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Janelle (Steve) Kain of Douglas, Abel Dean (Colleen) Santillanes of Liverpool, New York, and Chuck (Angela) Santillanes of Douglas; siters, Elma (Tony) Servantez of Torrington and Elsie (Tony) Gonzalez of Cheyenne; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Abel was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bonnie, on November 30, 2019; and siblings, Gene Santillanes, Jerry Santillanes, Dora Santillanes, Connie Santillanes, and Rebecca Baros.

Serving as pallbearers will be Ryan Santillanes, Anthonie Servantez, Josh Kain, Cody Kain, Dexton Santillanes, and Anthony Santillanes.    

Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 10:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M.

A memorial to the choice of the donor would be appreciated by the family.
