Obituary

Arnold Dean Sylvester, 88, passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2022 at the Chadron Community Hospital in Chadron, Nebraska.

Dean Sylvester was born on Tuesday, November 14, 1933 in Keeline, Wyoming the son of Arnold “Bud” and Merle Olive (Bartos) Sylvester.

Dean was reared and educated most of his life in Wheatland, Wyoming and graduated from Wheatland High School in 1952.  While in high school Dean lettered in football, basketball, and baseball.  In February of 1952 he married Marilyn Schott and to this union they were blessed with three children.  They were married for 47 years before Marilyn’s death. 

The family started out in Wheatland and Dean worked for Cundall Farms and the auto parts store.  They moved to California in 1962 and he took a job with the LA Times and ran the printing press.  He retired in 1993 and came back to his roots, Wheatland. 

Some of his hobbies included genealogy, some golfing, coin and stamp collecting, and he always had a dog by his side.

He is survived by his daughters, Cathy West of California and Nancy Anderson of Texas; three sisters, Clarice Sylvester of Wheatland, Patricia Bitner of Joplin, Missouri, and Marilyn Ferracone of Wheatland; five grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Sylvester, on November 26, 1999; father, Arnold “Bud” Sylvester, on November 1, 1991; mother, Merle Jennings, on June 23, 2009; and son, Stephen Sylvester, on February 3, 2017.

Services will be held at a later date.

The Gorman Funeral Homes – Platte Chapel of Wheatland are in charge of the arrangements.
