BARBARA O'NEAL Obituary

Barbara Joan O’Neal, 89, was born to William Ocie and Mary Josephine (Short) Patton in Augusta Kansas on Friday, March 4, 1932.

She was a straight A student and loved school. She met the love of her life Paul Ira O’Neal and they married November 11,1950 in Fort Morgan, Colorado. They had five children Terry, Peggy, Dianne, Patrick, and Michael.

They spent the early years traveling with Paul's job in the oil fields until they moved to Casper, Wyoming in 1960. They settled and Paul went to work for the State of Wyoming. Barbara also began her career as a cartologist at Pomco in Casper. She worked there for many years until Paul was transferred to manage the Douglas office of Job Service in November, 1977. Once in Douglas Barbara had a variety of jobs until Paul died on August 27, 1985. After his death she had the opportunity to travel the world visiting several countries including Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, and many other colorful places. She loved to travel and her yearly trips with her children were dearly loved. She called Douglas her home for 44 years. During that time, she made numerous friends and treasured all of them and her time here. She was a lifelong passionate reader and afficionado of Blue Grass and Classic Country music. She was an active member of the Samuel Mares American Legion Post #8 American Legion Auxiliary for many years. She was also an avid Wyoming Cowboys fan making many trips to Laramie for games.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her infant son, Michael O’Neal; her sister, Shirley Hutchison; and her brother, Jim Patton.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Patrick (Sandy) O’Neal of Thornton, Colorado, Terry (Thom) Flamboe of Spearfish, South Dakota, Peggy (Lane) Denzin of Lovell, Wyoming, and Dianne Burd of Douglas; four grandchildren, Reagan Flamboe, Jason Burd, Valerie Harigan, and Jana Bassham; four great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Barbara passed away Friday, April 16, 2021 in her apartment at the Mountain Lodge Assisted Living in Douglas.

Graveside services will be held Friday April 23, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. at the Douglas Park Cemetery in Douglas. A celebration of life will follow at the Samuel Mares American Legion Post #8 in Douglas.

A memorial to the Samuel Mares American Legion Post #8, P.O. Box 1, Douglas, Wyoming 82633 would be appreciated by the family.
