CARL FREDERICK FILTER

Carl Frederick Filter, 85, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at Platte County Hospital in Wheatland, Wyoming, surrounded by his loving family.

Carl was born on October 2, 1940, in Torrington, Wyoming, to Carl T. and Margret (Green) Filter. He was raised on the family farm in Torrington and attended Huntley High School, where he played football and was a member of the school band.

In 1959, Carl joined the United States Navy. While living in Omaha, Nebraska, he met the love of his life, Sharon Kay Thomsen, in 1960. The couple married on February 13, 1965, and were blessed with four daughters.

In 1979, Carl and his family moved to Wheatland, Wyoming, where he began working for Basin Electric Power Plant. He dedicated 23 years to the company before retiring in 2003.

Carl enjoyed staying busy and pursuing a variety of hobbies. He loved gold panning, forging knives, and tinkering with just about anything, always looking for ways to improve it. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, and, most of all, spending time with his family. Carl was a proud member of the Wheatland Moose Lodge, the Eagles, and the Hub City Motorcycle Club.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Margret Filter, and his sister, Rebecca (Filter) Lanning.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Sharon Filter of Wheatland; his daughters, Rhonda Martinez of Guernsey, Sandra (Sam) Filter of Wheatland, Brenda Filter of Wheatland, and Bridgette Filter of Guernsey; his five grandchildren, Levi Filer of Wheatland, Branden Powell of Cheyenne, Aaliyah Martinez of Laramie, Tracen Filter of Guernsey, and Zaylee Filter of Guernsey; and his sister, Cheryl Crossman of Cheyenne.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Wheatland Moose Lodge.
