Obituary

Carol Marie Russell passed away Friday, April 21 at the Douglas Care Center in Douglas, Wyoming after a lengthy illness.  She was 84 years old.

Carol was born on Monday, March 6, 1939 in Lusk, Wyoming to Florence Marie (Johnson) and Joseph Leonard Eddy.  She lived on the family ranch north of Shawnee, Wyoming until she went to High School at which time, she, her mother, and her brother moved to Douglas.  She graduated from Douglas High School in 1957 and married James Floyd “Jack” Russell Jr. later that year.  They lived in Douglas and had three children; Bob, Deena and David.  Jack’s life was cut short in an industrial accident in 1967 and Carol raised the children with the help of her mother.

Carol led an adventurous life and she was a hard worker.  She was a teller for the Converse County Bank, held a real estate license and sold insurance, owned her own Hallmark store, ran a Holiday Inn in Douglas as well as one in Laramie, Wyoming and was an administrative assistant at the Dave Johnson Power Plant for over 20 years. She liked to travel and enjoyed introducing her kids to different parts of the world.  They traveled to the Baja of Mexico, to the Western part of Canada, including Calgary and also enjoyed a trip to Disneyworld.  They even took in the 2002 Winter Olympics. She took flying lessons and loved exploring the Rocky Mountain Area with her kids and later, with grandson Luke.  She had nine grandkids and seven great grandchildren and she was very proud of them.

Carol’s big love in life was quilting and she never met a quilt store she didn’t like. She traveled all over the state of Wyoming and to many neighboring states taking classes, gathering materials, and enjoying the company of other quilting artists. After retiring, she worked at the Prairie Stitcher Quilt Shop in Douglas, where she gave sewing lessons to kids, a true joy for her. She was also an avid bowler and enjoyed playing on leagues in Douglas and travelling to the State Bowling Tournaments.

Carol was preceded in death by her mother, Florence, on May 31, 1990; her husband, Jack, on May 16, 1967; and her brother, Carl, on December 2, 2008.

She is survived by son Bob (Rhonda), daughter Deena, and son David (Stephanie) as well as her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Services will be held at Gorman Funeral Homes - Converse Chapel on Friday, May 5, at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Don Bergstrom officiating and Bob Russell and Jim Russell as eulogists.  Interment will be in the Douglas Park Cemetery.  A reception will be held at Moose Lodge #602 following services.
