Obituary

No funeral service will be held for Carol Elaine “Mama Bear” Sherman, 74, per her request.  Remember her as she was when she would say, “Have a great day and a better tomorrow”.

Carol died peacefully Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at her home near Douglas, Wyoming with her husband, John M. Sherman, of 52 years by her side.

Carol was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming on Wednesday, June 22, 1949 the daughter of Ray Eugene and Margery Anne (Mahoney) Shultz.  She was the second of four children.

She attended Buffalo Ridge Elementary School in Cheyenne until moving to Alcova, Wyoming, where her dad worked as an electrician for Alcova and Fremont Power Plants.  She lived at the Government camp until graduating from Natrona County High School in 1967.  She then moved to Casper and went to work for AT&T as a phone operator.  She also worked at Control Data making computer parts.

Carol married John M. Sherman on June 19, 1971.  To this union Tim R. and Brad M. Sherman were born.  They lived in Casper until 1994, then moved to Douglas.

While in Casper, Carol enjoyed riding motorcycles and participated in Paint Your Heart Out with ABATE of Central Wyoming and repeal of the helmet law.

She worked at Casper Events Center for the first ten years as a wardrobe mistress and was personal dresser for Annie and Barry Manilow.  She also loved the Ice Capades, Disney on Ice, and The Muppets.

In Douglas she worked as gate lady for Georgene LeBar during her dog trials every year, something she enjoyed very much.

She was preceded in death by her oldest son, Tim R. Sherman, on November 23, 2011; parents, Ray, on February 28, 2007 and Margery, on August 10, 2020; and grandparents, Abner and Olivia Mahoney of Cheyenne.  Ironically, it was her mother’s birthday today, September 13!

Carol is survived by her husband, John “Bear” Sherman of Douglas; son, Brad Sherman of Douglas; brother, Jerry (Sharon) Shultz of Casper; sister, Jeanette Wickstrom of Colorado; nephew, Jason Hagan; brother, Scott (Desi) Shultz of Casper; niece Sienna of Casper; granddaughters, Alissa and Shayna Sherman; grandson, Izack Sherman; numerous nieces and nephews; and grand nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Central Wyoming Hospice House, 319 South Wilson Street, Casper, Wyoming 82601 would be appreciated by the family.

The Gorman Funeral Homes – Converse Chapel of Douglas, Wyoming is in charge of the arrangements.
