CAROLYN FLORENCE (MAGUIRE) IRWIN
Obituary
Carolyn Irwin was born Tuesday, October 15th, 1929, in Douglas, Wyoming. She was the daughter of Ralph and Irene (Cunningham) Maguire. Their home was Keeline, Wyoming, where they owned/managed a grocery store. By the time Carolyn entered school they were in Lance Creek, Wyoming and a bus ride to Lusk, Wyoming, where she was high school prom queen runner up. After graduating from Lusk High School, she completed business school in Denver, Colorado and went on to work at Standard Oil Company in Casper, Wyoming until she married Don Irwin on November 20th, 1949.
They had two children, Anita Stinson M.D. of Palm Springs, California and Michael Irwin M.D. of Missoula, Montana and Los Angeles, California. She was a devoted and loving mother and home maker following the children in school and extracurricular activities. Over the years she was active in the Episcopal Church, Order of Eastern Star, PEO, bridge, and golf as well as cancer and church volunteer groups.
She loved to cook and entertain family and friends. She even had prize winning cakes at the Wyoming State Fair! As the children grew, they built a cabin in Wyoming and purchased a home in Borrego Springs, California. Both locations added to her the opportunity to enjoy family and friends. She and Don traveled seeing both exotic places and nearby locales for adventures and golf.
She was blessed with four grandchildren, which she loved dearly and spoiled, Andrea Felton of Scottsdale, Arizona, Ryan Felton of Omaha, Nebraska, Rhet Stinson of Scottsdale, Arizona, Zach Irwin of Boulder, Colorado; and five great grandchildren, Porter, Roma, and Harris Felton of Omaha, Nebraska and Oliver and Charlie Stinson of Scottsdale, Arizona.
She passed peacefully Friday, September 15th, 2023, surrounded by family at her home in Douglas, Wyoming.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Marian Danley.
A Celebration of Life is planned this winter in Borrego Springs, California and next summer in Douglas, Wyoming.
The Gorman Funeral Homes – Converse Chapel of Douglas, Wyoming is in charge of the arrangements.
