CHARLA DEANE (PETRANOVICH) MORTON

Funeral services for Charla Morton were held Tuesday, June 30th, 2026 10:30 A.M. at St. Paul’s

Episcopal Church, Yuma, Arizona and a second service will be held Saturday, July 11th, 2026 10:00 A.M., Christ Episcopal Church, Douglas, Wyoming, with burial to follow at the Douglas Park Cemetery.

Charla Deane Morton was born on Monday, June 8, 1942 in Oak Creek, Colorado to Adam (Pete) and Dorothy Petranovich. They moved to Douglas, Wyoming when she was in grade school. After graduation from Douglas High School she attended University of Northern Colorado where she earned a degree in Education and was a member of Delta Zeta sorority, Charla married John (Jack) Morton on December 18, 1965 in Denver, Colorado.  

After marriage she became a devoted wife, mom, and homemaker. She supported and was involved in many social and charitable organizations in both Yuma and Wyoming.  She was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church for sixty years as well as Christ Episcopal Church in Douglas and participated in choir, Altar Guild, Vacation Bible School, liturgical dance, and bible study. 

She belonged to Beta Sigma Phi for many years and volunteered numerous times for their annual Yellow Rose Ball. She was a longtime member and past-president of PEO, Chapter Q.

She was an accomplished seamstress and sewed many gorgeous outfits and costumes for Halloween and dance recitals for her daughters.  She volunteered for several years as a Girl Scout Leader. 

Charla loved to socialize and hosted wonderful get-togethers with her family and friends.  And made sure to attend her favorite Mardi Gras costume party every year.  

She was an avid reader, but also enjoyed golf and tennis activities with the whole family and road trips in the RV. She was well known for her famous cranberry bread given as Christmas gifts and made a delicious lemon bar.

In her later years, she and Jack became true “snowbirds’ who wintered in Yuma and summered in Wyoming surrounded and joined by her siblings, daughters, and grandchildren creating lots of fun family memories.

Survivors include her husband, John (Jack), their children Aimee Eck, Jocelyn (Mike) Gajewski, Jennifer Fugatt, and Lana Morton; grandchildren Josie (Daniel) Pintor, John, Daniel, and David Eck and Andrew Gajewski; siblings Mada Morgan, Milo Petranovich, Toni Hinton, Cammy Rowley, their spouses; and numerous nieces and nephews.

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to Charla’s much loved companion and caregiver Alma Gonzalez, as well as Carolina and Mirtha. Heartfelt appreciation to Kristie and Sarah who cared for her in Douglas.
