On Sunday night, January 16, 2022, Dana Kinsley passed away in Wheatland, Wyoming. He was 82 years young. Dana is survived by his wife, Phyllis Renee Kinsley, whom he cherished and was best friends with for 62 years. He is also survived by their two children, Debbie Kirkham and Doug Kinsley (Donna). Dana leaves behind three wonderful grandchildren, Danette Eppel (Blaine), Joshua Kirkham (Aubrey), and Garth Kirkham. He and Phyllis have five great-grandchildren: Devin, Jazlynne, Paxton, Tate, and Adrienne.
Dana was born in Leona, Kansas on Friday, February 17, 1939, to Burdette and Irene Kinsley. He had three brothers and one sister. After moving to Hiawatha, Kansas as a young man, Dana found the love of his life, Phyllis, who he married and began their family. He was a part of the United States Army National Guard and a Registered Land Surveyor in numerous states, including Wyoming. After working several years at the Basin Electric Power Station in Wheatland he knew when he retired that he and Phyllis would want to come back to Wheatland to stay.
Dana liked camping, boating, fishing, hunting, and loved the mountains. He enjoyed playing tour guide when family and friends visited this area. Retirement did not mean less work for Dana. He was exceptionally wonderful at taking care of his family and giving back to his community by driving the van on Sunday mornings to make sure people could get to church when they might not otherwise be able to get there, drove a route delivering Meals on Wheels, and drove many people to Cheyenne for dialysis or other doctor appointments who could not drive themselves. One of his favorite places to be was out in his “tinker shop” where he built, repaired, or designed many items. He was a great husband, father, and grandfather. He was full of life and had a great sense of humor. Most of all he liked to help anyone he could if they needed help.
There are large shoes being left behind.
A memorial to the Community Thrift Store, 866 Gilchrist Street, Wheatland, Wyoming 82201 would be appreciated by the family.
The Gorman Funeral Homes – Platte Chapel of Wheatland are in charge of the arrangements.
