DAVID LENGEL Obituary

A funeral service will be held for David Eugene Lengel, 72, at 10:00 A.M. Monday, February 22, 2021 at the Gorman Funeral Homes – Converse Chapel in Douglas, Wyoming with Pastor Patricia Bell of the First United Methodist Church in Douglas officiating.  Interment will be in the Douglas Park Cemetery.

David Lengel passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at his home in Douglas with his wife at his side.

David was born Sunday, December 26, 1948 in Wray, Colorado the son of Levi Edward and Mary Alice (Harmon) Lengel, and shortly after moved with his family to Berthoud, Colorado where his father farmed.  Later, the family moved into Greeley, Colorado where his father was the ditch rider for the Greeley/Loveland Irrigation Company.  Returning to farming the family moved to their 60-acre farm at LaSalle, Colorado.

David graduated from RE-1 School District, Valley High School in 1967.  He continued his education at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colorado for two years, then graduated from Colorado State University in 1971 with a degree in Ag/Economics.

He returned to the family farm at LaSalle to farm until September, 1978 at which time he was hired by the USDA Farmer’s Home Administration to begin his career in Worland, Wyoming.

A long-distance relationship continued with his soon to be wife, Lorie Marlene Libsack, also of LaSalle.  They were married November 24, 1979 in Greeley, and they had three children, Edward Kyle, Michelle Kristine, and Joseph David.

In 1979, David was transferred to Riverton, Wyoming where he worked from 1979 – 1981 as assistant county loan officer.  The couple then transferred to Torrington, Wyoming from 1981 -1986.  He was moved to Lusk, Wyoming to be supervising loan officer from 1986 – 1991, covering Niobrara, Weston, and Converse counties.  With the reorganizing of the USDA, the family moved to Douglas in 1991 for David to supervise the loan office for Converse, Niobrara, and Natrona counties.  During this time FmHA became Farm Service Agency, and he retired after 36 years in 2015.

David loved working on his old cars and taking walks to stop and chat.  His family meant so much to him, and he will truly be missed, especially for his sense of humor.  He was a long-time member of the Congregational United Church of Christ, where he served in many capacities.  Most recently he was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Preceding him in death was his father, Levi, on October 10, 1983 and his mother, Mary Alice, on April 26, 1989.

David is survived by his wife, Lorie of 41 years of Douglas; children, Edward of Evanston, Wyoming, Michelle (Justin) Harshman of Casper, Wyoming, and Joseph of Casper, Wyoming; three grandchildren, Alek, Delanie, Levi Harshman; and his sister, Martha Ann "Marti" (John) Hudson of LaSalle
