Dora Bernadine Montoya, 86, left this world Monday, August 8, 2022 in Wheatland, Wyoming. She was born on Monday, January 6, 1936 in Dixon, New Mexico to Enrique and Josefita Montoya. Dora was known for being a hard worker and an active member in the community, often donating her time and food. Dora’s cooking career began at the Dew Drop Inn, where she spent ten years, before becoming the head cook at Vimbo’s for the next 41 years. She was a member of TOPS, Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church and the Ladies of Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church. Her greatest love was her family and her faith. She loved music, dressing up for Halloween, helping others, and was an avid sports fan, often being spotted at Bulldog and Lobo games.
Dora is survived by her children, Tony (Lisa) Montoya and Sandy (Jeff) Hixson; two sisters, Ida (Bill) Waitman and Lupe (Bruce) Sowers; sister-in-law, Lucy Montoya; five grandchildren, Zach Montoya, Sydney (Gary) Allen, Jacob Montoya, and Myles and Matthew Hixson; three great grandchildren, Sofie, Bowen, and Gibson Henry Allen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Enrique and Josefita Montoya on April 1, 1964; siblings, Sally, Frank, JD, and Danny; nephew, Craig (Kathleen) Isabell; and grandson, Ty Montoya.
Rosary will be Thursday, August 18, 2022 at 7:00 P.M. at Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church in Wheatland. Funeral service will be held Friday, August 19th at 2:00 P.M. at Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church. Inurnment will be at the Wheatland Cemetery, with reception to follow at the Agriplex.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations written to the Ladies of Saint Patrick’s Church, at First State Bank, P.O. Box 39, Wheatland, Wyoming 82201 would be appreciated by the family.
