A funeral service for Dorothy Louise “Dottie” Conard, 81, will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at the Gorman Funeral Homes – Platte Chapel in Wheatland, Wyoming with Dr. Steve Lucas officiating.  Interment will be at the Wheatland Cemetery.

Dottie Conard passed away Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at the Platte County Memorial Hospital in Wheatland.

Dottie was born on Friday, January 5, 1940 in Miami, Florida the daughter of Thomas Mercer and Mildred Kent (Crowl) Conard.

Dottie worked as a veterinary technician for many years. She also owned a dog-boarding kennel on her property in Florida, where she lived most of her adult life with her mother, Millie. When the vet she was working for gave her a show quality cocker spaniel, Dottie knew she had found her passion in life! She learned to groom and show the cocker spaniels. She showed her own dogs against many of the highest paid handlers in the country and won her fair share of competitions. Her cocker spaniels were outstanding because she made sure they were loved, had the best of care and were free of hereditary defects. She also trained her dogs herself. Her dogs had beautiful temperaments and were always sweet and loving. She completed championships on many, many dogs. Due to her high standards of breeding and care, she also provided healthy, wonderful pet puppies to loving homes that she personally chose. At one time she had the #5 ranked black cocker spaniel in the country. His name was Sir.The name of her kennel was Des-Sir-Cay.

Besides dogs, Dottie had another love, and that was horses. While living in Florida, she had purchased a retired harness-racing horse, which she named “Joe”.She also had a goat, which had been given to her as a cute baby by a show judge.

Dottie had always wanted to live in the Rocky Mountains.  In the early 1980’s she applied for a job in Colorado.  She closed the kennel and moved to Loveland, Colorado.  Her mother stayed in Florida to care for Dottie’s dogs until Dottie could get settled.  After finding a job, Dottie sold her home and kennel in Florida, rented a house in Loveland and brought her mother and all the animals to live in Colorado.

Dottie retired from her job as a veterinary technician and began working as a dog groomer.  When her mother passed away, Dottie began looking for a small place in the mountains.  She found a home in the area she wanted but found that was too difficult to get out in the winter.

She went looking for another place to live.  When she found Wheatland, she decided it was the perfect place to call home and she never changed her mind!

Dottie had an older sister and a younger brother, who along with their mother, preceded Dottie in death.  Several nephews and nieces survive her.

Dottie was a one in a lifetime friend, in every way!

Friends and family can call at the funeral home 11:00 A.M. to the time of service.
