Dorothy LaRae McCormick, 72, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 30, 2022 at her home near Wheatland, Wyoming.
Dorothy McCormick was born on Saturday, November 19, 1949 in Dunning, Nebraska, the second of three daughters born to James Edward and Frances Novella Lovelace-Gallington.
In high school, Dorothy developed exceptional sewing skills, and was known to assist other students with their sewing projects. Her sister, Patty tells the story that oftentimes Dorothy would swap projects with Patty – giving Patty her completed project, and taking Patty’s incomplete project to finish it so they could both submit on time. Patty says they did this several times without ever being caught. Dorothy graduated high school in Ogallala, Nebraska in 1968.
On March 7, 1970, Dorothy was married to Ronald McCormick. They had two children, Jerald Arlin and Jeffrey Allen. The family moved to Wheatland, Wyoming in 1983, where she and Ron made their home for the rest of their lives.
Dorothy worked a variety of part-time jobs over the years, but mainly spent her time as a homemaker. She loved being a member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Dorothy had a passion for crocheting, and over the years she made and donated dozens upon dozens of afghans to friends, acquaintances, co-workers, and senior citizens.
Dorothy spent years caring for Ron when he developed cancer, staying by his side as his faithful companion as he battled for the last several years of his life. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Frances; her husband, Ron; and her son, Jerry.
She is survived by her sisters, Irene “Smoke” Christiansen and Patty Gallington; her son, Jeff (Shannon) McCormick; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews
At her request, no services will be held.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to VFW Auxiliary #3558, c/o Ruth Herdt, 56 Front Road, Wheatland, Wyoming 82201.
The Gorman Funeral Homes – Platte Chapel of Wheatland, Wyoming is in charge of the arrangements.
