DOROTHY MELCHER Obituary

Funeral service for Dorothy Jean “Nickie” Melcher, 82, will be at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, December 22, 2011 at the Wheatland Bible Church in Wheatland, Wyoming with Pastor Denzil G. Mauk officiating.  Interment will be in the Wheatland Cemetery.

Nickie Melcher went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at the Platte County Memorial Hospital in Wheatland.

Dorothy was born, May 6, 1929 in Kansas City, Kansas to Josef and Virginia Nichiporovich.  Her mother died when Nickie was 4 years old.  She was raised in the Life Line Orphanage until the age of 18. Her father visited her on the weekends.  She attended high school at Central College in McPherson, Kansas.  After high school she met her first husband, Durwood Melius, and they were married in 1949 in Russel, Kansas.  They had two children, Virginia Mae and Steven Keith.  In 1952 they divorced.  Nickie met Edwin Melcher in Douglas, Wyoming, and were married in 1958 in Casper, Wyoming.  They had two children Daniel Dean and Brenda Ann.
The family moved to Wheatland to farm in 1963. They purchased their own place in 1971, where she resided until her death.
Nickie loved to sew, enjoyed crafts of all kinds, loved fishing, taking pictures, collecting recipes, and music boxes.  She always enjoyed a good BINGO game.  She learned to play the piano as a young girl and enjoyed singing in the church choir.  She loved being a mother, a grandmother, great grandmother, and a home maker.
Nickie will be remembered for her quick wit, humor, great smile, and positive attitude.  She will be missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, ex-husband, and her husband.
She is survived by daughter Ginger Hamilton of St. Joseph, Missouri, son Steve Melius and wife Lavona of Cheyenne, Wyoming, son Dan Melcher and wife Melinda of Wheatland, Wyoming, and daughter Brenda Ford and husband Richard of Colorado Springs, Colorado, eight grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
Memorials may be given to The Gideon's International in remembrance of Dorothy “Nickie” Melcher.
