DeWAYNE OLSEN Obituary

DeWayne J. Olsen, 66, passed away Saturday, August 1, 2020 at his home on Boxelder, south of Glenrock, Wyoming of natural causes.

DeWayne was born in Douglas, Wyoming on Monday, July 19, 1954, the son of Martin Julius “Marty” and Elizabeth Jeanne “Bette” (Bartshe) Olsen, making him the fifth of six children.

On January 23, 1977 he married Christie Lynn Patterson, later bringing into this world their daughter, Sunny Dawn. They made their home on Boxelder where they built their life together. While still in his teens, he set in place his first dirt contracting business, Hook and Gouge Construction. Later, he and Chris established the Sawmill, where they custom built Quillpig Cabins and cut "thick and thin" lumber.

DeWayne was a true fabricator. Nothing died at the Olsen place, everything was repurposed or reinvented. Out of his treasure trove of relics, (i.e. good stuff), he could make anything.

DeWayne always said that the best part of life on Boxelder lately was the arrival of their three grandsons, Dalton, Matthew, and Miles, to live with them. They added new life to the mountain. DeWayne was bossy and here were three boys who needed lots of bossing.

DeWayne could and did talk to any and every one, young, old, and all walks of life. No one stayed a stranger for long, and people always left laughing.

DeWayne is survived by his wife Chris, and daughter Sunny; sister, Jeri (Larry) Philbrick; sister, Marti (Bob) McNamara; brother, Dean Olsen; sister, Vicki (George) Weiss; brother, Gary (Cameo) Olsen; and grandsons, Dalton, Matthew, and Miles Chapman.

He was preceded in death by his father, Marty, on February 24, 1976 and mother, Bette, on April 11, 2018.

A donation in his memory may be sent to the DeWayne J. Olsen Memorial at the Converse County Bank, P.O. Box 689, Douglas, Wyoming 82633.
