EUGENE ERNEST ROBBINS

Eugene Ernest Robbins passed away, Friday, January 22, 2021 at Memorial Hospital of Converse County in Douglas, Wyoming.

Eugene was born on Thursday, March 3, 1932 to Walter Eugene and Julia Ann (Boyd) Robbins in Glendo, Wyoming.  He was followed by Glenna Mae, Iva Lee, Clo Anna, and Jackie Mae. He pulled many pranks in that small town thus earning the nickname “Lightning” that he carried his whole life.  Being the oldest and only son, Gene left school at a young age to earn money to help support the family.  He was proud of his many jobs including cowboying and working for the local potato harvest.  One of his jobs was also being a driver for a local professional gambler when he was a mere 16 years young.  At 17 he started working for the railroad.

When home for a break Gene was attending a dance in the Wheatland, Wyoming area. A certain young local lady caught his eye.  Gene and Frances Joanne Fabricius married on October 12, 1952.  They sought more steady employment.  Gene then enlisted in the United States Air Force.  The adventures soon began.  The young family lived in such places as Minnesota, Alaska, Texas, Colorado, and the Philippine Islands.  During the early years of their marriage, Lightning and Fran were joined by Arnold Gene, Ernest Edwin, and Ronald Lee.  Upon his retirement from the Air Force after 28 years, Master Sergeant didn’t rest long.  Instead, he began working for Northrup Corporation.  Gene and Fran lived and worked in Saudi Arabia for over 15 years, finally officially retiring to the United States.

Mr. Robbins was preceded in death by his parents, the love of his life for over 68 years, Fran, in 2019, son Arnold in 2010, and his four sisters. 

He is survived by his sons, Ernest (Holly) and Ronald (Debbie); daughter-in-law, Rosie; seven special grandchildren; and thirteen great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held for Eugene Ernest Robbins, 88, at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at the Horseshoe Cemetery near Glendo, Wyoming with The Reverends Tom and Jenny Ketner of Episcopal Church of Saint John the Baptist in Glendo officiating.  Military honors will be accorded by F.E. Warren Air Force Base Funeral Honor Guard and John Prince American Legion Post #15.
