GARY ROBINSON Obituary

Gary Dean Robinson, 86, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Monday, November 14th 2022, at the Douglas Care Center in Douglas Wyoming.

Gary was born Thursday, July 30th, 1936 to Walter James and Helen Irene (Northrup) Robinson, in Laramie Wyoming. He attended school in Meeteetse and Shoshoni, Wyoming. He served in the United Staates Marine Corps from 1956-1959 as a helicopter mechanic, with a stay in Japan. He married Dena McVay on Thanksgiving Day in 1960, and they have been together ever since.

Gary received a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering at University of Wyoming (1963). He worked as a Hydrologist for the United States Geological Survey from 1963-1968, relocating to Topeka, Kansas in 1966. He then worked from 1968-1979 as a Hydraulic Engineer in the Kansas City area, while also getting a Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering (1976).  From 1979 until his retirement in 1992, he worked as a Hydrologist for the National Weather Service.

He joined the Church of Latter-Day Saints in 1969, eventually becoming an Elder in the Melchizedek Priesthood (1991). He also assumed leadership roles in scouting, as a Scoutmaster for Troop 218 in Riverton, Wyoming (1964-65), and later becoming a Cub Master (1971) and Camp Master for Troop 370 at the H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation MO (1977).

Upon retirement his biggest interests were traveling with friends, home improvement and yard - crafting rock walls and dikes. He enjoyed his neighbors who remember him fondly for his rock work in his yard.

He is survived by his wife, Dena Robinson, currently residing at Mountain Lodge Assisted Living in Douglas; his sister Judy Robinson; and his children Larry, Kyla, and Shad, along with their spouses; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Eugene Robinson, and by his parents, Walter and Helen Robinson.

His wishes were to be cremated and interred at the Forest Mound Cemetery in Jay Em, Wyoming, in plots reserved for both he and Dena. A Spring observance at the cemetery has been scheduled for May 6th, 2023 (Saturday) at 1:00 pm; with family and friends gathering afterwards for a remembrance/celebration-of-life at the nearby family homestead.

Gary enjoyed doing volunteer work to maintain and restore the Jay Em Historic District. In place of flowers, donations in his name can be made by check to the nonprofit “Historic Jay Em on the Rawhide”, 208 Troy Court, Evanston Wyoming 82930 - see the Historic Jay Em page on Facebook for more details.

The Gorman Funeral Homes – Converse Chapel of Douglas, Wyoming is in charge of the arrangements.
