GEOFFREY WIELAND Obituary

Geoff Wieland, 33, of Wheatland, Wyoming passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 22, 2022 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. He leaves behind his loving wife, Anita, and three children, Gunner (7), Josey (4), and Ziva (3).

Geoff was born in Hastings, Nebraska to Gilbert Wieland and Connie Scarrow in 1988. He grew up in central Nebraska at his grandparents’ cabin at Lake Johnson. He was an avid fisherman and worked at his grandparents’ go-cart track where he would work on the go-carts. He always knew that he wanted to be a truck driver, even at a young age. He wanted to follow in the footsteps of his late grandfather Jim Jacobs who was driving semis on harvest well into his 90s.

After high school, he attended Western Nebraska Community College and received his degree in auto mechanics. After college he worked for a harvest crew and Paul Reed Construction driving semis. He then later started a job for Western Hay Brokers out of Carpenter, Wyoming, driving a semi. This is where he met the love of his life Anita Moorhead, who was doing the bookkeeping for Western Hay Brokers while attending nursing school at LCCC in Cheyenne, Wyoming. He would turn in his paperwork every week and would ask Anita for a date, and would get told “no”, but after being turned down several times, his persistence paid off and Anita finally agreed to a date to attend a mutual friend’s barn party. The rest is history. Geoff and Anita moved to Wheatland in 2014, where Geoff took a job with Western Star Transport to drive a truck. Anita completed nursing school and their first son; Gunner James was born. Anita then took time off from work so that she and Gunner could ride in the semi with Geoff. Geoff was always quick to tell people that Gunner was 3 days old the first time he slept in a semi and he had been to over half of the states in America by the time he was a year old.

The couple became intertwined into the community, with Geoff later working for Klein Farms and Anita working as a nurse in the community. They eloped and were married by Judge Cole at the Platte County Court House on November 20, 2015. They decided to make Wheatland a permanent home and purchased their forever home in 2015. More kids shortly followed, Josey Walter in 2017 and Ziva Marie completed their family in 2019. Geoff later worked for Killion Trucking and then eventually went into the oil field for MXT trucking through 2019 and by this time, hard work and pinching pennies paid off and the couple was able to finally purchase Geoff his own semi and he started his own company, Diamond J Express, LLC. Geoff quickly became known for being an honest, hardworking, and reliable driver who could get a job done. His reputation quickly grew and he was able to stay busy hauling hay, equipment, and cattle in the area. Although very dedicated to his new trucking company, Geoff always found time to spend with his wife and three kids. They enjoyed adding animals to their small homestead with chickens, hogs, and a milk cow. They enjoyed traveling and visiting Alaska and most recently spent time in Florida for their wedding anniversary. During the summers, Gunner would ride in the semi with his dad and would be learning the ropes and Josey and Ziva were starting to spend more time on the road with their dad as well. When he was home with them, wrestling matches,

tickle wars, and bedtime stories were common and date nights with his wife were often spent in the shop working on the semi. It was rare to see the couple and their kids separate as they did everything together.

Geoff is survived by his wife, Anita and their three kids, Gunner, Josey and Ziva of Wheatland; his mother and stepfather, Connie and Randy Scarrow of Norton, Kansas; his father and stepmother, Gilbert and Shelly Wieland of Kenesaw, Nebraska; his grandmother, JoAnn Wieland of Johnson Lake, Nebraska, as well, as his sister, Reiley Wieland of Ravenna, Nebraska; and stepbrothers and stepsister Chance Widner, Jeremy Scarrow, and Mallory Scarrow.

He is preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Jack Wieland; and maternal grandparents, Jim and Doris Jacobs.
