JAMES KERNS Obituary

Funeral services for James Charles “Jim” Kerns, 73, will be held at Dugan Dolan Mortuary Chapel, 1805 Meadowlark Lane, Butte, Montana at 1:00 P.M. Friday, June 30, 2023with Father Thomas Haffey officiating.  Rite of Committal will follow in the Columbarium at Mountain View Cemetery in Butte.

Jim Kerns died Monday, June 19, 2023 at the Memorial Hospital of Converse County in Douglas, Wyoming with his loving family at his bedside.

Jim was born Monday, January 30, 1950 in Butte, Montana the son of Robert Louis and Marian Frances (Carver) Kerns.

After graduating from Butte High School, he went to work for the Leipheimer Bulk Plant. In 1972, he married the love of his life Joan Marie Stanaway.  Jim changed jobs and went to work for the Montana Power Company until he retired in 2006.  Leaving their home in Deer Lodge, Montana in 2011, Jim and his wife moved to Douglas to live with their youngest child Jamie.

Jim served six years in the Montana Army National Guard in Butte, was a Shriner, and a volunteer fireman.

Jim is survived by his wife, Joan Kerns, of Douglas; three daughters, January (Paul) Lambeth of Belgrade, Montana, Jerri Kerns of Dayton, Nevada, and Jamie Kerns of Douglas; two brothers, Mike (Mary Ann) Kerns of Butte and Tod (Nellie) Kerns of Moose Lake, Washington; four grandchildren, Ryley Lambeth, Sydney Lambeth, Wyatt Lambeth, and Gracyn Kerns; brother-in-law, Tim (Marie) Stanaway of Klamath Falls, Oregon; sister-in-law, Sister Selina Stanaway of Sinsinawa, Wisconsin; numerous nieces and nephew; and numerous great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert on February 6, 1981 and Marian on September 10, 1999; son, Jay Christopher Kerns on February 26, 1978; sister, Helen Marie Ayers on December 11, 2012; and mother and father-in-law, Agnes Patricia (Monahan) “Peg” Stanaway on November 7, 2010 and William Henry “Bill” Stanaway on June 12, 1997.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Shriners Hospital for Children, 1275 East Fairfax Road, Salt Lake City, Utah 84103, Sinsinawa Dominican Sisters, 585 County Road Z, Sinsinawa, Wisconsin 53824, or the choice of the donor would be appreciated by the family
