Funeral services for James Richard Koval, 69, will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, January 11, 2024 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1930 Cheyenne Street, in Douglas, Wyoming. Interment will be at the Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery in Evansville, Wyoming.
He passed away on Friday, December 22, 2023, at Memorial Hospital of Converse County in Douglas, Wyoming.
James was born Tuesday, September 28, 1954 in Jersey City, New Jersey the son of James Richard and Katherine Rita (Skoczylas) Koval.
Jim was a member of the Catholic Church. He joined the United States Army in June of 1972, and received his GED while stationed in Alaska where he was a military policeman. He received an honorable discharge in 1975, then joined the Army National Guard until 1978. He was a Vietnam War vet. Jim moved to Minnesota and worked in the taconite mines where he met his good friend Larry Umburger, who later became his brother-in-law. Both men moved to Rock Springs, Wyoming in 1978. There he met and married Sherrie Lynn Weaver, they had two children. In 1994 they moved to Douglas. Jim was a truck driver for Savage until they shut down in Douglas, he then went over the road with Seward Motor Freight. His family missed him so much that he came home. He worked for several companies including Russell Construction, Menter Sand and Gravel, Croell Concrete, and Price Pumping Service. After retiring three years ago, he spent time at home enjoying his family. Jim was a friend to all his coworkers and he loved helping his veteran friends. He was a member of the NRA, American Legion, and the Moose Club. He enjoyed spending time with friends, reading horror books, and watching horror movies. He will be truly missed
Jim is survived by his wife, Sherrie, of Douglas; daughters, Katherine of Silver Springs, Nevada and Rita of Douglas; sister, Valerie Finaldi, of Metuchen, New Jersey; grandchildren, James Adam Mount, Alexander Alan Mount, Annaleise Rosa Snow Aguilar, Gavin Lee Dickson, Aiden James Dickson, Katherine Alexis Dickson, Zachariah Tinder, Davis Tinder, and Sean Tinder; and several nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents.
The Gorman Funeral Homes – Converse Chapel of Douglas, Wyoming is in charge of the arrangements.
