James “Jim” Alvin Hardee, 77, of Douglas, Wyoming, passed away at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper, Wyoming on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, surrounded by family.
Jim was born on Thursday, January 15, 1948 in Fort Benning, Georgia the son of Clell Willard and Mary Alice (Burgin) Hardee. The United States Army moved his family to Panama, Canal Zone, and later to Aurora, Colorado, where he resided until moving to Laramie, Wyoming to attend the University of Wyoming. During which, he participated in the ROTC program, graduating with a degree in law. He then served as a JAG officer in the United States Air Force for six years, while being stationed in San Antonio, Texas and Anchorage, Alaska. After being honorably discharged from the USAF, Jim with his wife and children moved to Douglas, Wyoming to ultimately open a law office, where he practiced until he retired in 2016.
The Grand Canyon was very special to Jim. In 1981, a float trip down the Colorado River ignited his passion for white water rafting, culminating in a trip down the Colorado River in August 2025. Through the years there were many trips down the Salmon River, Green River, Yampa River and many other rivers. He delighted in frequent leisurely trips down the Platte River with his wife, family and friends.
Jim found the love of his life in Nancy; they were married in May 1997. Together they enjoyed traveling to exotic places as well as visiting family and friends, watching football games, camping and seeing the local sites. They also treasured being at home on the river, where Jim could often be found doing his “projects”. He loved God, cherished Nancy, adored his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Jim is survived by his wife, Nancy Hardee, of Douglas; children, Cynthia (Derek) Smith of Hulett, Wyoming, James Franklin Hardee of Greenfield, Iowa, Trevor Darwin (Tina) Williams of Overland, Kansas, Mark Clell (Robyn) Hardee of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Bryon James (Meredith) Wiliams of Douglas, Douglas Marvin Hardee of Tooele, Utah, John Moody (Shannon) Hardee of Denver, Colorado, Robert Alvin Hardee of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and William Garland (Shasta) Hardee of Idaho Falls; 22 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, Clell, on December 30, 2008; mother, Mary, on November 17, 2015; brother, Patrick “Pat” Clell Hardee on January 3, 1987; and sister, Catherine “Cathy” Leona Pope, on May 11, 1996.
Funeral service will be held 10:00 A.M. Saturday, October 11, 2025 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1930 Cheyenne Street, Douglas, Wyoming with Bishop Shawn Wilde presiding. Inurnment will be in the Douglas Park Cemetery with military honors accorded by Samuel Mares American Legion Post #8 and F.E. Warren Air Force Base Funeral Honor Guard.
