Jean Clair Hewett passed away, due to natural causes on Wednesday, April 2nd, 2025 in her own home in Glenrock, Wyoming at the age of 99.
Born Jean Clair Dasher on Mondy, July 27th, 1925 in Sebring, Florida to father Dewitt Talmadge Dasher and mother Laura Loretta (Widdon) Dasher. She enjoyed a happy childhood, especially during summers at her grandfather’s home on Paris Island.
She graduated from Lakeland High School, and immediately turned her efforts towards World War II. Like many youths of that time, she wasn’t afraid to bend the truth about her age to secure her place at Drane Field Army Air Force Base performing airplane maintenance, then later in the base hospital as an administrator. She later balanced her career as a homemaker often with work as a secretary.
She would meet her future husband, and lifelong love after agreeing to a blind date at a bowling alley in Lakeland, Florida. They would ultimately elope a month later in the neighboring state of Georgia, before starting a family of their own in Florida. They gave birth to Lori, and then to Margie before moving their new family across the country to California. They then gave birth to Tammy, and finally son John.
She and her husband, Burton Edwin Hewett, retired to Wyoming, eventually spending their later years in Glenrock. Here Jean would become the family matriarch, and with Burt by her side they would bookend the heads of the family table surrounded by their children, grandchildren, and even great grandchildren. She became very involved in the small community, she would volunteer delivering meals on wheels, and watering the plants lining the main downtown streets. She even became a “Bone Biddie” cleaning bones at the Glenrock Paleon Museum, a position she took great pride in. She was an active member of the local Legion, a member of Beta Sigma Phi, and attended Community Baptist Church. She also loved to garden, study genealogy, and after her husband Burt’s passing in 2003, she would find close companionship with her dog, Annie.
In her final years she often looked back on memories, sharing them with those close by her side. Her favorites being times from childhood, and moments spent with family. Especially her trip to Italy in 2001 with her husband Burton, and eldest daughter Lori.
She will forever be remembered for the smile that never left her face, and for her wit. Her wonderful mind, and ability to solve problems made her an avid crossword completionist, Sudoku expert, and Super Nintendo enthusiast. She also can be fondly heard reciting her favorite lines of poetry, joyfully singing a song for whatever occasion, and offering sound advice to anyone in need.
Survived by daughters, Lori Orleskie (Ted), Margie Tummond, and Tammy Danielson (John); son, John Hewett (Becky); grandchildren, Jacob Tummond, Jeff Tummond, Steven Orleskie, Brian Orleskie, Cody Danielson, Amanda Ainsworth, Caroline Danielson, Megan Ferradino, Kalin Hewett, and Alana Hewett; ten great grandchildren, and a single great-great granddaughter.
Preceded in death by her husband, Burton E. Hewett; her parents, Dewitt Dasher and Laura Dasher; sisters, Lillian Phalan and Virginia O’Quin; brother, Horace Dasher; grandson, Jason Tummond; and son-in-law, David Tummond.
Funeral services for Jean will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, April 11th, 2025 at the Community Baptist Church, 301 South Second Street, Glenrock, Wyoming with Pastor Rick Bishop officiating. Interment will be in the Glenrock Cemetery.
