JOHN WILLIAM WAITMAN

A Graveside service for John William "Bill" Waitman, 83, will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at the Wheatland Cemetery in Wheatland, Wyoming with military honors accorded by the Laramie Peak VFW Post 3558 and the American Legion Post 10.

John Waitman was an honored husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and veteran; he passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday, May 8, 2023 in Wheatland.

John was born on Tuesday, May 23, 1939, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska the son of Mearl and Helen E. (Cordes) Waitman. His family moved to Wheatland when John was in high school.  After graduating in 1957, John enlisted in the United States Air Force.  Upon his return, he met Ida Montoya and married her in December of 1962.  Together they had two children, John and Carmen.

Bill loved to be outdoors and was an active member in numerous groups around Wheatland over the years including the local V.F.W., American Legion, volunteer fire department, and the Moose Lodge.  Bill also helped coach little league baseball, teach hunter’s safety courses, and competed on league bowling teams.

In his spare time Bill enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, and playing cards with friends and tinkering with small engines and projects around his home as well as rooting on his favorite football team, the Denver Broncos.  Bill was known as “Windy” by many because of his gift of gab.  Those closest to Bill will all remember his love for a lively and in-depth debate when visiting him at home.  No matter the topic or outcome of conversation, he always told his visitors to “come back when you can stay awhile.”

John is survived by his wife, Ida Waitman of Wheatland; children, John Waitman of Denver, Colorado and Carmen (Bill) Stockwell of Wheatland; granddaughters, Nicole (Kory) Vance and Shanon Stockwell all of Casper, Wyoming; and great grandson, Morgan Vance of Casper.
