JOSEPH SHINMORI Obituary

Joseph Tatsuo “Joe” Shinmori age 95 passed away peacefully at his home near Douglas, Wyoming from heart failure with family members by his side Wednesday, March 18, 2020.

Joe was a lifetime resident of Douglas, and he married Lucy Kono on June 23, 1951. They raised three children Kat, Bob, and Jay.

Joe was in his life many things, modest, honest and hard working. Mostly he was outstanding in his field (little farm joke he liked). Joe loved his family, friends and farming. He was an avid fisherman, loved to bowl and hunt. Joe was happiest the company of good friends and family not to mention a good meal.

Joe served in the United States Army and was a member of the 442nd and was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor as such. He received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for his service in Italy during WWII. In 2010 Joe was delighted to be a part of the “Honor Flight” and visited the WWII Memorial in Washington D.C. accompanied by a dear friend. The trip was a highlight for Joe. Joe did presentations for Boys State and schools in Casper on what it meant to serve his country. Joe farmed for the majority of his adulthood and when it was time to give that up, he went to work in town for a number of years. Retirement was not a word in Joe’s vocabulary. He enjoyed gardening and shooting the breeze right up to the end.

Joe will be dearly missed by Lucy, Bob, Chris, Ben, Kendell and all his good friends.

Joe has chosen to be cremated and due to current circumstances, the family will announce services (tentatively late May or early June) at a future date.

Should you want to honor Joe with a charitable contribution, donations to Frontier Home Health and Hospice, 907 North Poplar Street, Suite 277, Casper, Wyoming 82601or your favorite charity will be appreciated.

Happy trails Joe.

The Gorman Funeral Homes – Converse Chapel of Douglas, Wyoming is in charge of the arrangements.
