Laurel Lynn Marker, age 84, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 6, 2026, at the Brookdale Assisted Living Home in Durham, North Carolina.
Born on Wednesday, March 12, 1941, in Laramie, Wyoming, to Elmer Clark and Minnie Mae (McMullin) Brasher, Laurel later married Gene Ray Marker on February 25,1961in Laramie. They settled in Wheatland, Wyoming, where they ultimately owned and operated the Marker family business, Marker’s Inc.
Laurel was preceded in death by her husband, Gene, on April 10, 2007; her parents, Elmer on June 16, 2010 and Minnie on January 19, 2007; and sisters, Sherry Ann Lockabey on October 4, 2020 and Wanda R. Washam.
She was an active member of the Wheatland community, participating in organizations such as the Eastern Star, Business and Professional Women, Sigma Chi, and the Silver Haired Legislature.
Laurel was well known for her love of college and professional football, Goldwing motorcycle rides, and attending the annual Nebraska Sugar Valley Rally with Gene in their 1941 Pontiac Sedan.
She is survived by her brother, Robert Brasher of San Diego, California; her daughter, LaVonna (Marker) Rasberry, and son-in-law, Mark Rasberry, of Durham, North Carolina; and her son, James Marker, and daughter-in-law, Jodi (Spievak) Marker, of Douglas, Wyoming. Also survived by four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Michael Thomas Rasberry, Allison Nicole (Rasberry) Gentry, Cohner Gene Marker, and Jordan James Marker.
A celebration of life will be held at the 805 9th Street, (Old Marker’s Inc building) on Saturday, March 28, 2026 from 1:00 P.M. – 4:00 P.M.
A private family internment will be in the Wheatland Cemetery with Reverend Tom Ketner and The Reverend Jennie Ketner officiating.
The Gorman Funeral Homes-Platte Chapel of Wheatland, Wyoming is in charge of the arrangements.
