LAWRENCE WELTY Obituary

Lawrence O. Welty, 88, beloved father, grandfather and brother, passed away peacefully at the Platte County Legacy Rehab in Wheatland, Wyoming on Friday, January 8, 2021 of heart failure.

Larry was born in Chugwater, Wyoming on Friday, April 15, 1932 to Merlin and Shirley (Arbogast) Welty. He graduated from High School in Chugwater, class of 1950, where he met his sweetheart Alma M. Jenkins. They were happily married for 61 years.

After a semester at the University of Wyoming and the onset of the Korean War Larry joined the United States Air Force and served in Clovis, New Mexico. He was mustered out and returned to Cheyenne, Wyoming and went to work in Casper, Wyoming. When the air base in Casper closed, they moved to Wendover, Utah, then Panama City, Florida, then to Denver, Colorado. The Wyoming Air National Guard called and they moved to Casper for many years until he was sent to Cheyenne. He worked 21 years for the Wyoming Air National Guard and retired a Chief Master Sergeant.

He worked at the Exxon Highland mine as a heavy equipment mechanic, then Engine Service in Casper. Larry and Alma moved to Phoenix, Arizona when Alma transferred with Frontier Airlines and they began a new phase of their life in the southwest where Larry worked at Lockheed and later Dyne-Air fuel service at Phoenix Sky Harbor airport for the next 20 years.

Larry retired and moved back to his home town Chugwater where he enjoyed fishing and hunting with a few years traveling in a RV. He was involved with service in the community of Chugwater as a member of the Masonic Lodge #23, the Shriners, and American Legion Post #75. He was also a longtime member of the Chugwater Museum, Chugwater Historical Unity Group and the Methodist Church. His smile and always helping hand will be missed.

Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Alma and his parents.

He is survived by his son, Lawrence Welty Jr. (Ellen) of Tempe, Arizona; and daughter, Laura Costy (Louis) of Fort Collins, Colorado; three grandchildren, Melissa Boucher (Carl) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Nathan Welty (Nicole) of Phoenix, and Alexander Costy (Stephanie) of Fort Collins; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters; Ferol Hitt (Roy) of Wheatland and Audrey Jarvis (David Sneesby) of Casper.

A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held in Chugwater at a later date.
