LENA MARIE DAWSON

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date for Lena Marie Dawson, 80, who passed away on Monday, June 13, 2022, at the Platte County Legacy Home in Wheatland, Wyoming.
Lena was the eldest daughter of Lucian J. Balzan and Rose E. (Carollo) Balzan. She was born on Thursday, June 12, 1947, and grew up in Hartville, Wyoming.  She attended Grades one through four in Hartville, Grades five through twelve in Sunrise, and graduated from Sunrise High School in 1960. On September 8, 1962, Lena married Huey A. Dawson.  Huey and Lena were blessed with two boys, Dale and William (Billy).
During her lifetime, Lena worked as a nurse's aide for Dr. James Allison, as a cook at the Flying X Ranch, and as a flagger on road construction. However, Lena spent most of her life as a house-wife while living at Sybille Research Center on Highway 34, then retiring to their ranch out in that same vicinity.  Lena's life goal was to make a good life for her husband, sons, and grandchildren and to provide them with the love and support they needed to excel.
In addition to loving and taking care of her family, Lena enjoyed cooking and baking, especially authentic Italian dishes and desserts.   Lena especially loved hosting a fish fry gathering at their ranch each year, when friends from out of state would come and visit. This was a highlight for friends, neighbors, and family.
Lena was very talented and loved making rustic western crafts. Many friends and family have these items in their homes, as she was very generous and enjoyed sharing her talents.  In addition, Lena had an eye for decorating and enjoyed collecting rustic western décor. 
Lena would like to be remembered, as she stated “I had a good life, loved my sons and grandchildren, enjoyed all the times we spent together, and was lucky and happy to live a good life with my husband.”
Lena is survived by her husband, Huey, of 60 years; son, Dale (Donna) and grandson, Dante; son, Billy (Chrissy) and granddaughters, Gavrielle and Bianca, all of Wheatland, Wyoming; grandson, Will (Brooke) Dawson of Cheyenne, Wyoming; and a sister, Lou (Tom) Alcorn of Rock Springs, Wyoming. She was preceded in death by a baby son, Rex Dawson; her parents, Lucian and Rose Balzan; and her sisters, Carolyn Balzan and Marilyn Tinsley.
Lena requested that memorial donations be sent to Platte County Legacy Nursing Home, 100 19th St, Wheatland, WY 82201.
