A Celebration of Life for Leona M. “Noni” Crain, 84, will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at 10:00 A.M. at Gorman Funeral Homes - Converse Chapel, 1147 Cheyenne Street, Douglas, Wyoming with Deidre Tedford as the officiant and Art Sims as the eulogist.
Interment will be at Douglas Park Cemetery, where she will be close to her brother, Larry Crummer, but not so close that they’ll fight. There will be a gathering at Washington Park immediately following, where all are welcome to stop by.
She passed away in the early hours of Saturday, August 19, 2023 at the Douglas Care Center in Douglas, Wyoming.
Noni was born Monday, February 13, 1939 in Casper, Wyoming to Thomas Henry and Ethel May (Lovitt) Crummer. She was the only child of theirs to be born in a hospital. Her childhood was spent in various places throughout Central Wyoming before her family settled in Douglas.
She married David K. Crain on August 25, 1960. They eloped, but took her Mama, Ethel, with them, making it only a partial elopement. David was in the United States Air Force and the couple moved several times over the years until settling in Douglas in 1971. They particularly enjoyed their time in Encampment, Wyoming, where they rode dirt bikes together into the mountains and hunted for mushrooms.
Noni became a cosmetologist and worked at Alva’s Kozy Korner Beauty Salon for a number of years. She then worked as a bookkeeper for Tumbleweed Station, before moving on to work as a Curator at the Wyoming Pioneer Museum until her retirement.
She was a member of the Wyoming Pioneer Association, and was also very involved with animal rescue and adoption, participating in the Paws and Pearls fundraiser for the Laramie Peak Humane Society every year until her declining health no longer permitted it.
She is survived by her husband, David K. Crain; her stepson, David L. Crain; her nephew, Montey Crummer; her niece, Deidre Lyn Tedford; and numerous great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Crummer on March 22, 1951 and Ethel Crummer on January 2, 1969; her niece, Laurie Crummer Hurly on April 4, 2015; her sister-in-law, Elaine Crummer on April 21, 2018; and her dear brother, Larry Crummer on May 27, 2023.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Laramie Peak Humane Society, P.O. Box 463, Douglas, Wyoming 82633 would be appreciated by the family.
Serving as pallbearers will be Montey Crummer, Erin Hashaw, Ben Applegate, Isis Hashaw, Paul Hashaw, and Ruben Hernandez.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Art Sims, Quay Hornbuckle, Kirk Hornbuckle, Brent Hornbuckle, and Rook Hashaw.
