LORETTA WHINERY Obituary

Loretta Jean Whinery, 86, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Saturday, July 16, 2022, after a brief illness.  A gathering and celebration of life will be held at Lewis Park on Thursday, July 21, 2022 from 10:00 A. M. to Noon.  A brief prayer will be offered, and snack foods provided in honor of Loretta’s love for gathering and visiting.  Friends and family are invited to come remember Loretta, tell stories, and remember her love she shared with family and community.

On Sunday, July 19, 1936, Loretta was born to Violet E. (Locke) and Vernon G. Blodgett.  Loretta was raised in Wheatland, Wyoming, where she went to school and later settled to raise her own family.  She married the love of her life, Melvin “Dean” Whinery, on January 22, 1954.  Together, they moved to Georgia and California briefly while Dean served in the military and was stationed there.  They welcomed three beautiful children to the world and kept them close to their hearts.

Loretta loved life in general and always found something to stop and admire.  One of her biggest loves was traveling.  She loved to hunt with Dean and family, often retelling her fondest memories of camping trips and hunting.  Loretta spent a lot of her time planning and building her garden and yard.  She loved to design and create a yard that catered to family gatherings and social events.  She took great pride in her creative talents, making a living for most of her adult life owning her own drapery business.  She was known to sew her own drapery designs, and often drafted Dean and her children into helping to install the creations in the homes and businesses of her clients.  In her spare time, and after retirement, she involved herself in art and music.  She became involved with the Platte County Art Guild and considered the members some of her closest friends.

Loretta was preceded in death by her parents, Violet, on July 3, 2018, and Vernon Blodget, on January 6, 1994; her husband, Dean Whinery, on January 8, 2018; daughter, Kathy Fisher, on April 7, 2013; sister, Lavern McGuire, on January 19, 2013; brother, Johnny Blodgett, on August 27, 1967; and many extended family members.  She is survived by her son, Darrel and his wife Lori Whinery of Wheatland; son, Stacy Whinery of Wheatland; son-in-law, Randy Fisher; grandchildren, Dolly and Lance Robinson, Lacie and John Maston, Brandon and Jen Munn, Shilo and Rocky Weber, Tiffany Whinery, Samantha Whinery and Anthony, Jaimie Whinery and Sean, Rebecca Lopez, and Glen Whinery; and 15 great grandchildren.

Memorial donations, made to the Platte County Art Guild, 407 Eleventh Street, Wheatland, Wyoming 82201, would be appreciated by the family.

The Gorman Funeral Homes – Platte Chapel of Wheatland, Wyoming is in charge of the arrangements.
