Mabeline (Mae)Thomas Smith was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend. She departed this life and gained her angel wings on Monday, January 19, 2026 at the Douglas Care Center in Douglas, Wyoming. She was 89 years old.
She was born on Friday, August 28, 1936 to Benjaman Charles and Ramona Irene (Lawler) Thomas. Her childhood was spent in Crawford, Nebraska. There, she fell in love with George Smith, her high-school sweetheart and love of her life; they were married on November 24, 1953. They started their family and a bakery business, eventually missing the turn at Glendo, Wyoming and ending up in Douglas, Wyoming and opening “The Home Bakery”.
She was caring and loving to her three children and families and balanced the long hours of a bakery with all her other community activities and friendships. She enjoyed her porch swing and lake time and playing games with family and friends. She was active in the Order of Eastern Star and served as Grand Guardian for Job’s Daughters.
Her sweet smile was warm and will be missed by all that knew her.
She is survived by her spouse, George C. Smith; her sister, Josephine (Jo) DeSive; and her three children, Ben (Brenda) Smith, Sheri Leinweber (Greg Nelson), and Becki Parker. She had 16 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 12 great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjaman on February 28, 1956 and Ramona on October 10, 2009; her brother, Charles B Thomas on October 11, 2013; step father, Clifford E. Horner on May 29, 1986; and her son-in-law, Bruce B. Parker on January 1, 2026.
A funeral service is scheduled for Monday, January 26, 2026, at 2:00 P.M. at the Cornerstone Community Church at the corner of 5th and Oak Street in Douglas with Pastor Don Bergstrom officiating and Order of Eastern Star rites will follow at the church. Inurnment will be in the Douglas Park Cemetery. A reception is to follow at the Masonic Temple, 138 North Fourth Street in Douglas.
