MARGARET ANTHONY MORRIS Obituary

Margaret “Marge” Anthony Morris passed away Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at her residence in Casper, Wyoming at the age of 94.

She was born in Platteville, Colorado on Friday, October 15, 1926 the second of seven children to John Jr. and Catherine Marie (Geringer) Zeiler.  She grew up in Brighton, Colorado and attended school there.

She married Douglas V. “Doug” Anthony in Brighton on June 21, 1944, and followed Doug to air bases, stationed at Selfridge Field, Michigan, and Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts until she returned to her parent’s home in Brighton to await the birth of their first child, Sharon.  When Doug was discharged in January of 1946, the family moved to Douglas, Wyoming.  Two more children, Bob and Bev were added to the family.  She resided in Douglas for 73 years, until she moved to Casper in July of 2019.

Doug passed away on February 26, 1971 and in 1978 Marge married Glenn W. “Jim” Morris.  After they both retired, they enjoyed many trips to visit family around the country.  Jim passed away on December 15, 1996.

Marge loved bowling and went to every national tournament from 1989 to 2007, traveling with good friends Ann, Georgia, Floy, Carol, Wilma and others.  In 1994 she was State Senior Champion and placed 4th in the National Senior Championships. They saw a lot of country and had a fabulous time together.   She rarely missed a bowling match on TV and recorded them to watch later if she couldn’t watch them live.

Marge volunteered at the Douglas Senior Center for 25 years, helping set up lunches and deliver meals.  She was a member of the R.S.V.P and enjoyed going out on ‘patrol’ with good friend, Georgia.

Marge loved watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, and was a whiz at the Jumble and Crosswords in the paper, still working them in record time prior to her death.

She worked at various places in Douglas, including the LaBonte Hotel and KN Energy.  She retired from KN in 1988.  She will most likely be best remembered as “lunch lady” at the school cafeteria, where she collected money and punched lunch tickets.

Marge is survived by her three children, Sharon Hargraves, Bob (Lynne) Anthony, and Bev (Craig) Johnson; step-son, Bob (Isa) Morris and their families which included five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and great-great grandchildren.  She is also survived by siblings Millie Thaden, Ruth Jorgens, and Bob (Nance) Zeiler, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Marge was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; sisters, Helen Carlson, Bev Wagner, and Shirley Antill; and step-daughter, Pam Cahall.

At her request, no funeral services are planned.  She asked instead that everyone think of her and be sad for a moment, then smile and be happy for the good memories.  There will be a private burial ceremony at Douglas Park Cemetery in Douglas, Wyoming.  The Gorman Funeral Homes – Converse Chapel of Douglas, Wyoming is in charge of the arrangements.

The family would like to extend a sincere ‘thank you’ to all of the people at Park Place Assisted Living and Central Wyoming Hospice for the professional and compassionate care they provided Marge.  Also, many thanks to Ross Gorman and his staff for their services and care during this time.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorials to Central Wyoming Hospice, 319 South Wilson Street, Casper, Wyoming 82601; the Douglas Senior Center, P.O. Box 192, Douglas, Wyoming 82633; or a charity of the donor’s choice.  Condolences may be sent to the family online at gormanfh.com or c/o Bev Johnson P.O. Box 365 Hill City, South Dakota 57745
