Funeral services for Marjorie Jean Yates, 99, will be held at a later date.
Marjorie Yates died Saturday, February 20, 2021 at her home in Douglas, Wyoming with her son, Dave, at her bedside.
Marjorie was born Wednesday, August 24, 1921 in Peru, Nebraska the daughter of William Franklin and Ethel Louise (Chambers) Lehrman. She was raised and educated in Peru, graduating from the Peru High School. Marjorie moved to Huntley, Wyoming with her parents and sister, Ann. She was married to Oral Wayne Yates on October 17, 1942 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. They resided in Goshen County and Oral worked on a ranch. Oral had a farming accident in July, 1951, Marjorie and Oral along with their two sons moved to an acreage east of Torrington, Wyoming in 1952. They eventually moved into Torrington where they resided until 2007, and at that time moved to Douglas to be near family.
Marjorie enjoyed playing pinochle and visiting with friends at the Senior Center. She took great pride in hosting Christmas gatherings for her family and friends. A favorite pastime for Marjorie was caring for her yard, flowers, and garden. She would can the fresh vegetables from her garden.
She is survived by her son, Dave (Joann) Yates of Douglas; daughter-in-law, Anne Yates Leimser of Columbus, Montana; seven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her father, William, on July 2, 1976; mother, Ethel, on August 31, 1961; husband, Oral, on March 9, 2008; son, Danny Yates, on October 15, 1997; and sister, Ann Curry.
