Mark Jerome Cash Sr., 85, of Douglas, Wyoming, passed away on Monday, September 1, 2025 peacefully at his home.
Mark was born on Wednesday, September 27, 1939, in Belk, Alabama, to Lessie Lindsay (Freeman) and Ira Gardner Cash. He grew up in Birmingham, Alabama.
In 1956, at the age of 17, Mark married Betty Lorene Cash and soon after joined the United States Air Force. He proudly served from 1957 to 1978, during which time he traveled the world and collected countless stories and memories that he loved to share with family and friends.
Following his military service, Mark continued a life of dedication and service to others by joining the Converse County Sheriff’s Department in Douglas, Wyoming. He also served his community as a Converse County Commissioner, reflecting his lifelong commitment to public service.
Beyond his career, Mark found joy in flying, fishing, and spending time with his family. He was also devoted to his church and found fulfillment in helping people whenever he could.
Mark will be remembered for his sharp sense of wit and humor, his generosity, his devotion to family and community, and his strong sense of duty.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lessie Lindsay (Freeman) on November 3, 1983 and Ira Gardner Cash on November 14, 1978 of Birmingham, Alabama; his wife, Betty Lorene Cash on November 24, 2015 of Douglas, Wyoming; his brother, Douglas Cash on July 3, 2010 of Millport, Alabama; his sister, Cherry Pickett on April 12, 2025 of Pea Ridge, Alabama; and his daughter, Jenny Rebecca Cash Geringer on May 30, 2011 of Norman, Oklahoma.
He is survived by his sisters, Rita Faye Cash Howell of Macon, Georgia and Jane Cash Cooper of Punta Gorda, Florida; his children, Marsha Lorene Cash of Dougla, Wyoming, Wendy Lynn Cash (Rick) Smith of Georgetown, Texas, and Mark Jerome (Jennifer) Cash Jr. of Orangeburg, South Carolina; his grandchildren, Aaron Michael Pierce of Taichung, Taiwan, Sarah Rose Smith of Georgetown, Texas, Jacob Charles Smith of Round Rock, Texas, and Ira Robert Cash of Orangeburg, South Carolina; and his great-grandchildren, Bruce Gene Generali of Georgetown, Texas and John Allen Generali of Georgetown, Texas.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at the First Baptist Church of Douglas, Wyoming with Pastors Bill Williamson and Zack Andrews officiating. Burial will follow at Douglas Park Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Samuel Mares American Legion Post #8 and F.E. Warren Air Force Base Funeral Honor Guard. Friends and family are invited to attend and celebrate Mark’s life.
A visitation for family and friends will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers or donations, please honor Mark’s memory by taking your children or grandchildren out for a special day together.
Serving as pallbearers will be Kevin Meyers, Jed Landen, Russ Vargas, Jeremey Littleton, Dick Wortham, and Rick Andrews.
