Mark Alan Koons, 76, passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2023 at the Davis Hospice Center in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Mark was born on Saturday, January 4, 1947 in Geneva, Wisconsin the son of Albert Eugene and Pauline Elizabeth (Powell) Koons.
During Mark’s career he was an Army medic, worked automobile assembly lines, and did industrial construction for ten years before opening his Wheatland shop in 1981 to begin his woodworking. Koons is a member of the Furniture Society and has done pioneering explorations in both end-grain and bent, tapered laminations. He has shown across the United States and in Canada and explained his processes in Fine Woodworking magazine. He has judged and curated shows of fine craft. His work is in the collection of the Wyoming State Museum and Buffalo Bill Center of the West.
A service will be held at a later date.
The Gorman Funeral Homes – Platte Chapel of Wheatland are in charge of the arrangements.
