MARY MARGARET (RODRIGUEZ) SORG

Mary Margaret (Rodriguez) Sorg, 80, passed away Monday, May 17th, 2021, at Douglas Care Center in Douglas, Wyoming. 

 Mary was born Friday, May 16th, 1941, in Morrill, Nebraska, the daughter of Jose’ and Julia (Gutierrez) Rodriguez.  Mary grew up in a large family, the fourth oldest of 15 children.  The family moved to Douglas in 1944, and her father realized his life-long dream of owning his own farm in 1965 when they bought the Fetterman Farm north of Douglas.  Mary began learning to speak English when she started school.  She attended school through the eighth grade, but when her father was killed in a ranch accident in 1967, she stayed home to help run the family farm.    

Mary married the love of her life Leo George Sorg, on May 8, 1970, at Saint James Catholic Church in Douglas.  In 1972 they were blessed with their son, Joe Sorg, and Mary couldn’t have loved that boy more.  Mary, Leo, and Joey had many adventures together throughout the years, from racing cars to owning a pawn shop.  In 2020 Mary and Leo celebrated 50 years of marriage.  When asked about her favorite memories growing up, Mary always said being with family. 

Mary was preceded in death by her father, Jose’, on June 30, 1967; mother, Julia, on December 17, 1993; husband, Leo, on September 23, 2020; and siblings, Inez Pino, Billy Rodriguez, Raymond Rodriguez, Monica Weaver, and baby Josephine Rodriguez.  

She is survived by her son, Joe (Dawn) Sorg, of Douglas; siblings, Sally Cook of Carlsbad, New Mexico, Berta (Bob) Bryan of Neillsville, Wisconsin, Lucy (Jesus) Nieto of Chicago, Illinois, Andrea (Gary) Roberts of Buda, Texas, John (Laurie) Rodriguez of Carlsbad, New Mexico, Josephine (Dana) Hineman of Missoula, Montana, and Fran (Larry) Phillips, Liz (Mike) Schrader, Judy (Lee) Boyd, all of Douglas; and grandchildren Brandon Sorg of Casper, Wyoming, Trevor Sorg, and Madison Sorg, both of Douglas. 

A memorial service will be held at Saint James Catholic Church in Douglas on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at 7:00 P.M. with Father Lucas Kazimiro Simango officiating
