Mary Frances Thompson, 74, passed away peacefully at her home in Douglas, Wyoming with her loving husband and daughter at her bedside.
Mary was born Tuesday, November 19, 1946, in Montgomery, West Virginia, the daughter of Lewis John and Edna Jean (Stewart) Baxter. She was raised in Montgomery and later Bedford, Ohio where she graduated from Bedford High School. She received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Ohio State University and awarded the prestigious National Science Foundation Scholarship to attend Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio where she received her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN).
Mary was a professor of nursing at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. It was here that she met the love of her life William Charles “Bill” Thompson, on September 8, 1972. They were married by a campus chaplain at the university’s student union on December 15, 1972, in Ann Arbor. They were married for 48 years.
In 1976 they moved to Colorado. Mary worked at the University of Colorado as an adjunct professor of nursing. Their daughter Jennifer was born in 1977 and their son John was born in 1980. Mary and Bill moved to their new home in Douglas, Wyoming in 2006, where Mary resided until her death.
Mary always had a passion for cooking cuisines of the world. Most recently, she was dedicated to candle scaping and sharing her endless creations on the Internet. What brought her greatest joy was watching her grandchildren grow and share their interests with her over the years.
Mary is survived by her husband Bill of Douglas; daughter, Jennifer and son-in-law Joel of Colorado; son John, daughter-in-law Krista and three grandchildren Brooke, Charles, and George of Canada.
In place of flowers, donations to the Laramie Peak Humane Society, P.O. Box 463, Douglas, Wyoming 82633, will be appreciated by the family.
