MAXINE DORTHY (BURZLAFF) SHERWOOD

A funeral service for Maxine Dorthy Sherwood, 93, will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, June 17, 2021 at the Gorman Funeral Homes – Platte Chapel in Wheatland, Wyoming with Pastor Casey Schroeder officiating.

Maxine Sherwood passed away on Friday, June 11, 2021 at the Platte County Legacy Home in Wheatland.

Maxine was born on Tuesday, January 10, 1928 in Wheatland, the daughter of William A. and Clara (Schleeter) Burzlaff.

Maxine was reared and educated in Wheatland and graduated from Wheatland High School in 1946.  After graduation she attended the University of Wyoming and earned her teaching degree.  She returned to Wheatland and while working for the Wheatland Lumber Yard she met and fell in love with Roland “Corky” Sherwood.  They were married on January 23, 1949.  In their early years they lived on twelfth street and had given birth to two boys and two girls, Don, Phyllis (Phyllis passed away in infancy at about twelve days old), Barbara, and William.

Maxine worked as a bank teller and bookkeeper.  She started working for Stock Growers Bank in 1961, while the bank went through several name changes when she retired in 1993 it was Key Bank.

Maxine loved to crochet in her off time.  She was a member of the United Methodist Church and was a life time member of the Women of the Moose.

Maxine is survived by her sons, William (Natalie) Sherwood of Laramie, Wyoming and Donald (Nancy) Sherwood of Shady Cove, Oregon; three grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roland “Corky” Sherwood; infant daughter, Phyllis Sherwood; daughter, Barbara L. Moffit and her husband, Lyle Moffit; and brothers, William C. Burzlaff, Donald Burzlaff, and Lawrence Burzlaff.

A memorial to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 1275 Fairfax Road, Salt Lake, Utah 84103 would be appreciated by the family.
