MITCH (HARRY) MITCHELL Obituary

Mitch [Harry Lee] Mitchell died on Sunday, November 6th in Aurora, Colorado at University Hospital.  He was born in Bedrock, Colorado on April 27, 1941 the son of James Cypress and Grace Mysie (Gardner) Mitchell.  He was educated in Rifle, Colorado.  He graduated from Colorado State University in 1967 with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration.  He and his wife, Diane Louise Thrall, were married on September 29, 1968 in Glenwood Springs, Colorado.  Mitch started his professional career with State Farm Insurance Company.  This career took them to St. Paul, Minnesota, Columbia, Missouri, and finally to Greeley, Colorado in 1976.

In June, 1979, he went for alcohol treatment at Harmony Foundation in Estes Park, Colorado, and was a friend of Bill W. for 32½ years.  Mitch was a trainee counselor at Harmony from 1981 until he and Diane moved to Ft. Collins, Colorado in 1993.  There he worked for the Institute for Alcohol Awareness and Mountain Crest Hospital.

In November, 1995 they moved to Wheatland, Wyoming, where Mitch became a licensed addictions therapist at the Southwest Wyoming Mental Health Center.  In October, 2000 Mitch retired due to his bi-polar diagnosis.

Mitch continued to attend A.A. meetings.  He faithfully supported the work of his local church family at Wheatland Bible Church.  He was an avid walker and loved sports.  Mitch enjoyed his wife’s labor in their yard, especially her flowers.  Mitch had a tender heart, always had a kind word and was a friend to all.  He will be greatly missed.  He is home with his Savior, Jesus Christ.

In leiu of flowers, a gift in Mitch’s memory to Harmony Foundation 1600 Fish Hatchery Rd.  Estes Park, CO 80517 would be appreciated.

The Gorman Funeral Homes – Platte Chapel of Wheatland was in charge of the arrangements.
